Europeans have been questioned on Ukraine resolutions in the United Nations

On Monday, the United Nations rejected a United States attempt to soften the position of the General Assembly on the Russian war in Ukraine, giving Kiev a diplomatic victory and his European allies, while President Donald Trump tries to mediate a peace agreement.

With 193 members, the General Assembly voted for drafts of competing resolutions – one from Washington and a curated by Ukraine and European states – to celebrate the third anniversary of the Russian invasion to its neighbor.

The United States were forced to refrain from the vote of their resolution, after the European countries emit the Washington project to add language that reflects the longtime support of the United Nations in Kiev during the war of sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

“This war has never only concerned Ukraine. It is the fundamental right of any country, to choose its own way and live free from aggression,” said the deputy foreign minister of Ukraine Mariana Betsa at the assembly before the vote .

The United Nations controversy occurred after Trump started in an attempt to mediate the end of the war, causing Rusgas with the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy and leaving the European allies concerned about the possibility of being excluded from peace negotiations. The Russian and American authorities met last Tuesday.

The resolution prepared by the United States which ended up received 93 votes in favor and eight against, with 73 abstentions. Russia has not been able to repair the text of the United States to include a reference to the “fundamental causes” of the conflict.

Before the vote of the US text, the United Nations Provisional Ambassador Dorothy Shea said that the changes proposed by the Europeans and the Russians sought “a war of words rather than the end of the war”.

For her, the amendments damage “what we are trying to obtain with this resolution focused on the future: a firm consent of the members of this organ to meet in a resolution that requires the end of this conflict”.

Vote of the Security Council

The Assembly approved the resolution prepared by Ukraine and European countries, with 93 votes in favor, 18 and 65 abstentions. In addition to the United States, other countries that voted against were Russia, North Korea and Israel.

But this should not stop,” The Ambassador of the United Nations to the United Nations, Vassily nebedia, at the Assembly said.

The original draft of the United States was three paragraphs that recorded the death of the “Russian-Ukraine conflict”, reiterating that the main purpose of the United Nations is to maintain international peace and security and resolve disputes in peace, as well as one Quick end of the conflict a lasting peace.

But the European amendments have added references to the total invasion of Ukraine Russia and the need for a right, lasting and complete peace, according to the letter of the United Nations, and have reaffirmed the support of the United Nations to sovereignty, independence, all ‘Unity and the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
