Brendan Fraser surprised with his makeover for Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale, which entered the main competition at the Venice Film Festival and will be screened there for the first time. It is an adaptation of the 2012 Samuel D. Hunter play of the same name. The day before, along with the announcement of the dates of the film review, exclusive footage was presented for some of the participating films, including Darren’s film and Luca Guadagnino’s new work. Thanks to this, we saw what the sex symbol of the 90s looks like now.
Recently, the actor already looked different than in the 1997 “George of the Jungle” that made him famous, and now he has become unrecognizable. It is reported that this is not makeup: he gained several tens of kilograms for the role and now weighs 270 kilograms. Frazier, 53, played “The Whale” as a reclusive teacher trying to connect with his 17-year-old daughter. According to the actor, this will be a completely new role for him in every sense:
It is certainly far from anything I have ever done, but I will not be modest … I know that this will make a lasting impression.

The film will be Frazier’s first big role in nearly 10 years since the release of his 2013 action film Breakthrough. At the same time, only scandals haunted the actor in recent years: in 2018, Fraser claimed that he was sexually assaulted by Philip Burke, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, at a dinner in the summer of 2003, when Burke grabbed his buttock and touched his crotch. This incident, the divorce from his wife and the death of his mother led to Fraser’s depression, which, combined with health problems (including weight gain) and the negative reaction of the public after Burke’s accusation, in his opinion, led to a career failure.
