After the victory in the Brazilian cup, the Athletic coach highlights the pressure and challenges of the intense games of games
Atletico is in the second phase of the Brazilian cup! On Tuesday night (25), the Hurricane beat Pouo Alegre 2-0 at the Mandizão stadium, in a match valid for the first phase of the national competition. Luiz Fernando, in the first half, and Kevin Velasco, in the final phase, marked the goals of the Red-Nero classification.
In a press conference, the coach Maurício Barbieri stressed that these initial duels of the Brazilian cup are often insidious, asking for the utmost attention from the team. The first half had little emotions, but Athletic did enough to go on the benefit. The goal came out immediately after 4 minutes, with Luiz Fernando enjoying a beautiful passage from Velasco.
“I think the goal in advance has given us some tranquility, but then we were disdained. We did not play as we should in the rest of the first half.”
Intense game sequence challenges the preparation
Barbieri also underlined the difficulty of balanced Shapher’s close calendar with effective training to prepare the team.
“The last full week to train was before 11 January. We have new players who come and fight more, but in that context it is very demanding.”
The coach also commented on the reformulation of the cast and how, despite the difficulties, the team was able to evolve.
“There has been a great reformulation in the cast, and this result is essential to give peace in the sequence. But above all, we are managing to develop the team and maintain performance at the same time.”
In the return of the break, Barbieri had to replace Dudu with Palacios. The right back has undergone a shock to the head in the first half and, although he remained on the field, he brought dizziness back to the interval, being replaced by precaution.
“Dudu gave a blow to the head and at that moment seemed to be fine. But on pause he reported dizziness, so we followed the protocol and made the exchange.”
The Hurricane returns to the field for the second round of the Brazilian Cup on March 5, waiting for the winner of the clash between Guaraly de Bagé -rs and Altos-Pi.
