This film will be held at the Cesar 2025 ceremony on Friday, February 28. It’s neither Phew nor Emilia Perez: it is Monte Cristo and 14 nominations.
Monte Cristo’s number He succeeded in his bet: attracting a large audience, with 9.4 million assumptions, the 2nd great success of 2024 in theaters (behind a small extra item).
At César he has managed some expected technical nominations (costume, décor …), but also in the most popular categories (film, production, adapted script, actors and actors …)
How to explain such success? And how did the filmmakers experience the film’s international acceptance? Distribution was able to meet with Matiu Delaport and Alexander de la Patelius a few days before the ceremony on the day of the Caesar Names Day.
The young audience made the film. How did it affect and how would you explain it?
Matthieu Delaporte: He touched us because it was one of our goals. We have been judging with Alexander for years that the young audience is not inaccessible that you just have to offer it to films that it is not used.
This has proved us in our opinion that there was a place for a similar movie in France
If they see American movies, four hours, they can watch a three -year -old French movie. Because of this, you need to return the desire to go to see our movies when we were age.
It was mostly wonderful to see this, to see the wonderful to see all the families. It calmed us down. This has proved to us that there was a similar cinema in France. So after, we were a little bit on a little cloud.
Great success in France, but also international success. Can you comment on Monte Cristo’s tale success?
Matthew Delaport. : True, we had a chance to go with the movie. We went to many countries. We went to Germany, Turkey, the United States, Brazil, the Netherlands and soon to travel to Japan. It is extraordinary to travel under your arm to meet a local audience.
And the press is true that we are lucky that we have a film that is very well received, so it is very happy. Excellent for meeting different audiences that are excited. He cries in every country, wonderful!

Do you remember a particular country whose reaction is indicated?
Alexander de la Patelie: I have a fairly moving memory of Los Angeles. Because in Los Angeles, the film was extremely showed by students. We did the whole program so that the students … I believe that 3,000 students who saw the film. I think they almost never seen a French film and, of course, not three of the French films that happened in the 19th century. We were interested in what sauce we were going to do. They were very taken by the film.
We had a lot of exchange with them. It was very moving. In addition, it was happening in Los Angeles, a place that is a DGA, which is a cinema temple for us. It felt like the loop was finishing. That’s what I got, which was wonderful.
I don’t know you want to comment, but we told ourselves that the movie could have even more appointments, especially for second roles or revelations …
Matthieu Delaporte: We wanted it too! But claim is difficult. It’s a bit stupid, but it’s the first thing we thought when we saw it. We thought about Patrick Mill, Vasily Schneider, Julienne de Saint Jean, Anamaria Varolome …. But in any case, they are there with us. They are in our hearts. To celebrate all this, we all go to drink together.
