Discover the first photo of Brendan Fraser in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale. The actor portrays a 270 kg man suffering from morbid obesity.

Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale, selected in competition at the 79th Venice Film Festival from August 31 to September 10, is revealed through the first photo.

Brendan Fraser (The Mummy) is unrecognizable there. Adapted from Samuel D. From Hunter’s Play (2012), The Whale is set in a Mormon town in Idaho. Charlie, a morbidly obese man who weighs 600 pounds, hides in his apartment and starves himself, hoping to die. He is desperate to reconnect with his daughter. Soon he befriends a sharp-tongued and very unhappy teenager.

The actress answers here Sadie Sink (Stranger Things), Samantha Morton (The Walking Dead), Ty Simpkins (Insidious) and Hong Chau (Downsizing).

When the project was announced in October 2021, Brendan Fraser told the site Unilad :”This is something you’ve never seen before. I can tell you this for sure…the wardrobe and costumes were extensive. It’s a far cry from anything I’ve done before.”

The A24-produced feature film marks Darren Aronofsky’s return behind the camera after 5 years with mother Jennifer Lawrence and notably Brendan Fraser in the title role.

The actor was absent from the screens for many years due to health problems and after being a victim of sexual violence.

The whale must celebrate his return to the front of the stage. The actor will also appear in the cast of Martin Scorsese’s Assassin’s Creed and Batgoal, in which he will portray one of Batman’s enemies, Pyrrho (Firefly in English).

The Whale will be released on February 22, 2023 in France.
