The billionaire of the Presidency of the United States and the special consultant Elon Musk have mistakenly accused Verizon, a rival provider of the Spacex Starlink system, which belongs to him, of having put us at risk of safety through a communication system that is actually managed by the company L3harris.
Musk admitted that he made a mistake when he said that Verizon managed the Federal Aviation Administration system (FAA).
“Correction: the old system that is in rapid decline in the ability was made by L3harris. The new system, which is not yet operational, is of Verizon,” Musk wrote on social networks.
Verizon, who manages the largest wireless network in the United States, rejected Musk’s initial charge with a declaration, saying that he had just started working on the system.
“Faa’s evaluation is that there is no figure of months for a catastrophic failure, putting the safety of air passengers at risk,” Musk said in his original place.
Verizon replied: “To clarify, the current FAA systems come from L3harris and non -Verizon. We are at the beginning of our multiannual contract to replace old and obsolete systems. Our teams are working with the FAA technology teams and our solution is ready to be implemented.”
L3harris did not immediately comment on the topic.
On Wednesday, the Washington Post reported that the FAA was close to the cancellation of the 15 -year contract with Verizon in 2023, of $ 2.4 billion, made to reform the entity communication system. The contract would therefore be given to Starlink, from Musk. Faa said he had not yet made a decision on the contract.
This week, Faa said he is testing three Starlink terminals in an installation of the Alaska government in response to the fears about the reliability of weather information for the state aviation community.
“Faa took into consideration the use of Starlink from the past government to improve reliability in remote places, including Alaska,” Faa said this week. The agency did not immediately comment on the Musk tweet.
The President of the United States Donald Trump has appointed Musk to direct a group called Doge, or Department of Efficiency of the Government.
Last week Faa fired 350 employees, as part of an effort led by Doge to reduce the size of the government. Transport secretary Sean Duffy said that nobody shot a air traffic controller or played a key role for air safety.
A team of doge, made up of Spacex engineers and acting as special government officials, visited FAA last week.
