The president of Boeing Kelly Ortberg told employees on Wednesday that the company needs a more open culture, in which workers are encouraged to comment and communicate with all the divisions, according to the transcription of a meeting seen by Reuters.
“We are very isolated” and “we do not communicate through the borders”, he said in the transmission of the meeting, directly from St. Louis, in the American state of Missouri, home to the division of defense and space.
The company’s teams, which also include divisions of commercial aircraft and global services, “do not work with each other in the best possible way,” he said. “And Boeing’s power lies in the fact that we all put the boat together.”
Ortberg said that a cultural change would increase the company’s morality, which has over 160,000 employees all over the world, and “the results will appear on the market”.
Boeing refused to comment on his lines.
The company has lost almost $ 12 billion in 2024 and struggled to stabilize the production of its 737 Max, 787 and several defense programs, including two substitutes of the United States’s presidential plane, Air Force Um.
Previously, Ortberg, who took CEO’s position in August, said that the company has lost its “iconic” status and that to solve its safety and quality problems it would be necessary to change the culture of Boeing.
On Wednesday he said that his diagnosis of Boeing problems was partially informed by a cultural working group made up of employees of all the society that was analyzing their values and “probably more important”, the company’s behaviors.
Ortberg said he wanted to elaborate an action plan based in part in a survey conducted with employees conducted in February, which received 82% of the team.
About the results, he said: “I think they will be brutal with the command, frankly”.
In October, Ortberg announced his intention to reduce the 10%workforce of the company, which at the time was about 170,000 people. Boeing has issued at least 5,000 US resignation communications, in particular in November and December, on the basis of available public records.
On Wednesday Ortberg praised the commitment of Boeing employees for the company in their years of difficulty.
