Although young, Madison has already clarified that she is not at ease with the exhibition on networks. It is an exception between the actors of their generation, which depend more and more on digital platforms to show their work, their personal life and interact with the public.
Madison does not have or intends to have an active account on any network. For her, it is not something that seems authentic or natural. Known for the reserved profile, Madison had already commented that the decision also has to do with the conservation of its mental health. He says he is sensitive and believes that being exposed can cause problems to his emotional well -being.
It is interesting to think that Madison goes against young people and not so young who work in the audiovisual industry and that, often, even with fear of the exhibition, they are forced to publish on the networks to guarantee advertising contracts and even the choice for some documents. How many times do TV or producers do not choose an actor or presenter based on the number of followers and the interactions that generate on the platforms?
If, on the one hand, the networks guarantee space and “voice” for people to express what they think, support or repudiate causes and show their work, on the other, they can have important impacts on the quality of life and on professional future.
A recent example was another strong competitor of this year’s Oscar. The Spanish sofa Karla Gasco, who despite all disputes does an exquisite work on Emilia Pérez, and would be the first trans woman to overcome the best category of the actress, may have issued the statuette by a racist and xenophobic comments made in the past and viralized a few weeks before the delivery of the prize.
In 2024, actress Zendaya said that maintaining social networks became a sort of obligation for young artists, even when there is no authentic desire to participate. At the beginning of this year he stopped following everyone on Instagram, including his boyfriend, actor Tom Holland.
Many actors, singers, sportsmen, influencers and other people in the entertainment sector have moved away from the networks in recent years, due to the lack of time, the need for concentration or to try to reduce impacts on their mental health.
The young and promising tennis player João Fonseca is an example of this temporary disconnection movement here in Brazil. Even turn off his nets in competition stages. But when he completely refuses to enter the networks, Madison is perhaps one of the most radical examples of his generation.
If between artists and athletes the decision to disconnect is still an individual choice, in schools it has become a rule. In San Paolo, for example, the law that prohibits the use of cell phones in schools has completed a month and, according to educators, already shows positive effects on classrooms and intervals.
We hope that the position of the actress Mikey Madison serves at least as a reflection point for so many young people who can barely manage to realize how long the time can damage their attention, well -being, performance and relationships with others. How about using networks with more moderation?
