Last Thursday (6), five cities in the southern region of the state, including Capão Do Leão, Pelotas, Rio Grande, Sao Jose Do Norte and Turçu, have decided to suspend the lessons due to extreme heat. Students should only return to activities on Monday (10), when time should be milder.

In Capão do Leão, the suspension of the lessons was agreed by the Town Hall in collaboration with the school councils, with the aim of guaranteeing the health and well -being of the students. In Pelota, the decision was formalized on Wednesday (5) with the publication of a decree in the Official Gazette of the Municipality. Thermometers indicated a thermal sensation up to 42 ° C Thursday.

The municipal secretariat of Rio Grande explained that the combination of high temperatures and high relative humidity was the determining factor for the suspension of the classes, which should be compensated later. The Turuçu town hall reported that the lessons will be replaced in July 2025, while the authorities of San José do Norte will however define the replacement dates.

The intense heat in Rio Grande do will continue until this Saturday (10), with temperatures that can reach up to 40 ° C in different regions. The isolated rains persist in the western and in the mountains, with 5 to 10 millimeters accumulated per day. The advance of a cold front of Argentina will bring stronger rainfall to the south and the countryside.

Sunday (9), the unstable climate spreads throughout the state, programmed for strong rains, lightning and even hail. The civil defense has issued a notice for the population, in particular for children, the elderly and animals, guiding the maintenance of constant hydration and protection against direct sun exposure, in particular between 10 hours and 16 hours.
