Reporter who left SBT enters the new program on YouTube and dreams of making an attraction on the night of the TV
Rejected by SBT, Emerson Tchalian has not lost time: he has already started working as a police journalist in the new host of the host Paulo Mathias, who was also deactivated by the Anhanguera station.
The journalist had dreamed of television since he was a bank boy. He went to the struggle, studied, convinced a director to give a chance, showed his vocation and built a successful career with the microphone in his hand.
In this interview, he comments on the second SBT spell and the reason for his resignation. It reports the importance of popular journalism and reveals what it still wants to produce in front of the cameras.
How do you analyze this 1 year trajectory in SBT journalism? Was it worth leaving Redetv to take the challenge?
Thanks too much. It was a wonderful year, hard work, meeting, joy of returning to this special house, where it all started 30 years ago. I left Redetv, where I lived 23 years and also had wonderful experiences, to integrate tá at the time, a project that I have always believed, a format that I have always wanted to do. And it was very beautiful, under the direction of the talented and dear Leticia Flores. I started making a special series on the Richthofen case, an extraordinary job with wonderful professionals. Great repercussion. Then I was sent to cover the floods of Rio Grande do Sul, a sign of trust in my work. I also covered the sad loss of our Silvio Santos, a historical moment on TV, and I was there, in the station he built. There have been great moments in time, from the debut of March last year to the last few days. With the changes in the program, I ended up strengthening the team of the first impact, at the request of the morning head, with my friends Marcão Do Povo and Dani Brandi. The experience was also wonderful, with excellent public rates and a very good energy. SBT is a house that will always have a special place in my heart. And I am very grateful to all those who were at my side during this period. I’m sure we did a good job.
Do you think your resignation have been motivated by shopping, how did it occur in different broadcasters, hitting expert journalists?
I’m not sure, in my case. It has a new management in SBT journalism and is creating their team, it is natural that it is so. They are chosen. The criterion is that sometimes it is complicated to understand. I am sure I have delivered the best, that I dedicated myself to every story or live entrance, that I respected the history and legacy of the station. It would still have a lot to offer, including new projects. But it is life. And, yes, it is true that expert journalists are losing space in the editorial offices, but there is no case of SBT, which still has many white heads there.
Is popular journalism with the supply of services, like you, is the salvation of open TV?
Popular journalism will always have space on open TV. It is here that people are seen in good and bad news. It is simple, direct and dynamic language. This is what people like. And I love this format. Days of these, when I was covering a case on the Raposo Tavares Highway, a man approached me, called me by name and said: ‘Heck, you here. I always see you for many years. It seems that I’m finding a friend. This is the biggest test that popular journalism creates a connection with people. It will never end.
You started SBT in the 90s.
YES! I have never lost this excitement. I love journalism, I love television, I like to be a journalist. It’s my life. I fought hard to enter this means and I live this dream 30 years ago. This is my oxygen. I can’t stop.
Many journalists who have left TV, certainly or not, invest in their production of content for YouTube and social networks. Do you think of this possibility?
Yes, it’s a chance. A path that many are successfully walking. It is a new era in communication. With infinite possibilities. Also this Monday 10 March, I already make my debut on YouTube as a police journalist on the show in addition to the news, led by the excellent Paulo Mathias, the former Jovem Pan and Sbt. There will be two daily editions, live, from 9 to 10 and from 16:00 to 17:00. And he also assumed the management of the communication of Aspomil, the social assistance association of the military police of SP. And I continue to talk to the television stations.
Which project would you still like to do on TV?
A program on the lines of what Maestro Goulart de Andrade did in the early hours. The sequence of the plan, which shows curiosity of the night, behind the scenes of life.
