The series has been quite a surprise!
The latest television bomb has been brought by a women’s soccer team, the victims of a plane crash. The series has managed to combine the style of ‘Lost’ and the novel ‘Lord of the Flies’: the result is an overwhelming thriller that plays between the survival time of the young women in the Canadian forests and the present, 25 years after the accident, where the life of some survivors of the tragedy is seen.
The style of the series is very reminiscent of the reference they created JJ abrams Y Damon Lindeloff: Survivors of a plane crash struggle to survive in the rugged forests for 19 months. Unlike ‘Lost’, the survival stage is the flash back, while in 2021 it is seen what the day-to-day is like for some of those members of the Yellowjackets and how the aftermath has been for each one, with the slab of the accident still weighing on them. Besides, we must not forget that already at the beginning of chapter one, we observed the young women with hunting skins, covering their identities, and how they bleed a human corpse. The disturbing, and perhaps cannibalistic, air also recalls the novel by William Golding. From minute one the series showed a lot of restlessness and explicit images that it has continued to highlight in all the episodes: animal corpses, open wounds in all their splendor and hardness, a lot of blood, both in the history of the nineties and in the present.
Given its success, our favorite women’s soccer team on television will return for a second season. This was reported in the middle of last December from the official account.
Showtime, the channel that owns the series, did not wait for the news of a renewal. Thanks to growing fan numbers, the series was renewed last month, in the midst of its first season. Following the announcement, Showtime’s president of entertainment, Gary Levinsaid Deadline that the thriller is one of the network’s biggest hits. “It was our second biggest debut of the series on streaming, and has grown every week by double-digit percentages.“, he commented.
What was the reason for the success of ‘Yellowjackets’? The series has had some ingredients that, well macerated, have known how to bear fruit: a fascinating story full of mystery and many unknowns, good characters accompanied by great performances, as well as an absolutely impressive soundtrack.
‘Yellowjackets’ has been able to capture the public’s attention and in many ways picks up the baton that the ‘Lost’ series left twelve years ago. However, the audiovisual world has evolved in this time and, despite the fact that the teenage series has similar chances to become a success, it has much more competition in this new era, that of streaming platforms. However, his ability to amaze the public has meant that there are more doses of Yellowjackets for a while. And keep in mind that the protagonists are women in their forties. Luckily it is becoming normal to see interesting roles over 30 years old.
‘Yellowjackets’, season 2: Synopsis
The double story will continue, considering that we know that the team is still lost in the mountains and that they were there for 19 months, and we have seen what happened between the fall and early winter of 1996.
The series has left many questions for the second season, both in the 1996 and 2021 timelines. (Beware, from here on there are spoilers from the first season). In the last chapter it was seen what had happened brawl in the cabin of Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) and Jackie (Ella Purnell). Angry at the group in general, Jackie, who had found out that her best friend had been cheating on her with her boyfriend Jeff (Jack De Pew), goes out of the house. In the following images that we see from the nineties, we see Shauna looking out a window and reacting by running down to what she sees: her friend has passed away, frozen due to the low temperatures. One more blow for the group of young women -especially for Shauna- who have already seen before her eyes the death of another of her companions (that explosion of the plane in front of them…). Lottie (Coutney Eaton) left at an altar? a heart of the bear? before which she begins to preach with Misty and Van. “Versez le Sang mes beaux amis“(shed blood, my dear friends)says the young woman.”And may the darkness set us free“. What happened to the girl who had bad feelings since the plane went down?
The timeline of 2021 has not been left behind: a mysterious group (wearing pendants with the creepy symbol) has entered Natalie’s house (juliet lewis) taking her to no one knows where. Meanwhile, Suzie, her contact at her bank, has discovered information about Travis’s death, and leaves a message, and more importantly a question, on her answering machine: “Who the f*ck is Lottie Mathews?” Looks like Lottie is alive. What has become of her in these 25 years? Is she the one behind that cult that has kidnapped Nat?
On the other hand, Simon (Rukiya Bernard), Taissa’s wife (Tawny Cypress), has returned home to take some things. When she goes down to the basement, she is struck by a trapdoor because she sees something that is blood. She opens it, enters, and gets a horrible surprise: an altar with the symbol that persecutes girls, a doll, the head of her dog, her heart, candles… a totally murky picture. Taissa, the exemplary woman who has tried to banish her past in the face of the electoral campaign -which it seems that she has won and will be a senator in the second season-, she kept more secrets than we thought.
Also Travis’s death remains a mystery, and we don’t know why Natalie was kidnapped. Or how she’s going to carry Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) the disappearance and death of Adam (peter gadiot) Will the authorities discover something? And Misty, both in the present (Christina Ricci) like in the 90s (Sammi Hanratty) will undoubtedly continue to be a box of surprises.
As Levine mentioned, there are still a LOT of questions about how many survivors there actually are: Could some of the others still be out there? Where is Travis’s brother, Javi? And what will happen to Shauna’s baby? Will we find out who was the barefoot girl who was running to her death in the first episode?

‘Yellowjackets 2’, season 2: Release date

Anyway, bart nickersonco-creator of the series, told The Hollywood Reporter that ‘Yellowjackets’ originally featured “like a five season idea”. So there are still plenty of plot points to explore.
