The Latam airline is negotiating the closure of its codehare agreement with Voepass in the second half of this year, according to two sources that are familiar with the matter.
The measure would represent another Voepass setback, which already has to face a potential judicial recovery process, after suspending its operations this week by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) for safety reasons, after a fatal accident occurred last year.
Discussions on the resolution of the agreement are underway for months, the sources said.
Although a final decision has not yet been taken and no contract has been signed, the negotiations now focus on a potential window to stop agreement between July and October, although these dates can still be changed, one of the sources said.
Research, Latam refused to comment and Voepass did not immediately respond to a commentary request.
Latam does not reveal its sales numbers through codeshare contracts, but its partnership with Voepass is one of the 18 agreements that the company has.
Voepass, in turn, generates most of its entrances from the partnership, with about 97% of the sales of air tickets from the agreement with Latam, according to a third source that is familiar with the numbers.
The possible resolution follows Anac’s decision this week of suspension of Voepass operations, claiming security problems.
Anac’s determination comes about seven months after an ATR-72 ATR-72 plane of Voepass crashed into Vinhedo, inside San Paolo, killing all 62 people on board.
The newspaper Folha de S.palo reported in February that Latam had told Voepass that he would not renew the partnership among the companies after August, without mentioning the sources.
At the beginning of this year, the Court of Justice of San Paolo granted judicial protection to Voepass, temporarily safeguarding the action of the aircraft and preventing the seizure of its plane, while the company struggles to manage its financial situation.
Voepass, a former Papatore, accumulates a debt of $ 215 million and claims that part of it is due to latem’s late payments.
One of the two sources who are familiar with Voepass’s situation said that now the air is more likely to look for a short -term judicial recovery since its flights have been suspended.
Although a formal program has not been established, preliminary discussions are underway, with April emerging as a possible window of the measure, said the same source.
Even before the suspension of Anac, one of the sources had told Reuters that Latam was worried about the security problems of the Voepass and the risk of reputation involved, which motivated his desire to cut the bonds with the company.
This week, after Anac’s decision, Voepass has declared in a declaration that its operational fleet is able to make flights in line with the safety standards and that the interruption will have an impact on thousands of people.
Anac claimed to have identified the systematic non -compliance with the requirements.
