The birth of Charlotte

As we study in his autobiography The happiest days of my life (Transmitted by French information sheet), Chaplin himself developed this outfit in 1914, when he was only 24 years old. While working at the time, as one of the members of the Fred Carnot Comic army, he was recorded while traveling to the United States and offered the opportunity to change the Hollywood star of Keystone Studio.

It was his second film – a short film called Mabel’s Strange Adventure – that he invented the character that would soon become known throughout the world, making this vagabond appearance and costume, which is not yet called Charlotte.
