UFC Fighter puts the migratory policy of the European Union as one of the engines of the government campaign, still embryonic

Former champion of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Conor McGregor This week he revealed that he intends to apply for the presidency of Ireland through a post on his social networks. The fighter’s desire takes place after the meeting with Donald Trump, president of the United States, at the White House – headquarters of the United States government.

There has not yet been an official application of the fighter. The elections in Ireland take place in November this year and, one of McGregor’s main reasons, it is to oppose the migration pact of the European Union, a block of which the country is part and is a set of rules that aim to manage migration and an asylum program among the nations that are part of the Union.

“Who else will face the government and oppose this bill? Any other presidential candidate they try to present will not offer resistance,” McGregor wrote, positioning himself against the migratory pact. In addition to Trump, the fighter Met Elon Musk, owner of X, CEO of Tesla and currently councilor in the United States government. “I will present this bill in a referendum. Vote for McGregor.”

Before revealing his “candidacy”, McGregor had already talked about the desire to modify migratory policies in Ireland in a press conference in the White House. “We consider the United States our older brother. So it is important that Ireland is a prosperous and peaceful country, so that the 40 million Irish descent the Americans have a place to visit,” he said.

Since 2021, McGregor has not fought at the UFC when he was injured in the fight with Dustin Poerier. In June 2024, a fight was marked with Michael Chandler at UFC 303, but had to be canceled by a new Irish injury. Instead, Alex Poatan defended his heavy belt against Jiri Prochazka in Las Vegas.

Ireland is a parliamentary democracy, in which the President divides the legislator with the Chamber of Representatives and the Senate. It became independent of the United Kingdom at the beginning of the twentieth century and, with the departure of the country from the European Union, continued as a member of the blockade.
