Lewis Hamilton made history by winning his first victory for Ferrari, his first in sprints and stables in format.
Ferrari finally won a sprint race and the responsible person was nothing more than Lewis Hamilton. In the Shanghai circuit, the Epracale champion started well, checked the race and brought the stable to the top in the short format.
Oscar Pasters shone and secured second place, overcoming Max Verstappen in a spectacular overtaking on road 16. George Russell completed the race in fourth place, resisting the attacks of Charles Leclerc, who ended in fifth place.
With Sprint’s victory, Hamilton became the first pilot to win a railway race in a short format.
Clean start and first disputes
Hamilton kept the tip without difficulty, while, right behind, Lando Norris had a bad start, he spread too much and lost positions. On the 2nd lap, Russell passed Leclerc, showing the good rhythm of Mercedes.
Oscar Pasters and Leclerc played in an intense battle in the first round, with the Australian who took the best. Further back, Liam Lawson was trying to get out of the 18th, but a touch with Jack Doohan prevented him from going on.
Battles in the middle of the platoon
In The Return 7, Gabriel Bortoleto and Isack Hadjar played 15th, with the Brazilian who took the best. However, Hadjar gave change shortly after. Already Carlos Sainz, who made a discreet race with Williams, suffered a “passenger” of Lawson before stopping in the pits on the back 12, returning 18 seconds behind the leader.
Meanwhile, Pasters was taking aggressive evidence, constantly pressing Verstappen. The most awaited moment came about 14, when the McLaren driver was almost able to overcome the Dutch. Two shifts later, the Australian realized the maneuver, taking second place brilliantly.
Russell Segura Leclerc; Norris advances in the end
George Russell kept the fourth position for most of the race and, along the 18th, had to keep Leclerc’s attacks. Monegasco tried to react, but the British defended themselves well and ensured the position.
More behind, Lando Norris was blocked behind Lance Stroll for practically the entire race. However, in the last corner, the McLaren pilot managed to overcome the Canadian and earn the position.
Setback for the Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto
After the final flag, there was still a yellow flag due to a slight touch between Jack Doohan and Gabriel Bortoleto, when the Australian closed the door to the Brazilian.
The tires will be the key factor for the GP
Sprint has clarified that the management of the front tires will be essential for the main race. High wear can be a decisive factor for pilots and teams when defining strategies.
