Ponteff will rest for 2 months to recover
In the hospital for almost 40 days for the treatment of bilateral pneumonia, Pope Francis was discharged on Sunday (23) by the Gemelli Polyclinic Hospital Gemelli Agostino in Rome after his first public appearance from February 14th.
The 88 -year -old brought the medical center to Casa Santa Marta, its official residence in the Vatican, with oxygen cannulas that help him breathe.
Before arriving on the scene, the Pope passed to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore to deposit a bouquet of flowers as a sign of thanks after his long hospitalization and presented Cardinal Rollanda Makrickas. “Take care of you, Francisco” were the words of the faithful visibly surprised by their arrival.
Then he stopped briefly to greet the agents of the order at the entrance of the Vatican. His entourage passed Ponta del Perugino, the closest to his home.
According to his medical team, Francisco will need at least two months of rest and will have to undergo respiratory physiotherapy and language exercises, since he has a voice affected by the prolonged period in which he received help for high flow oxygen.
“It is difficult to say how long it will take to be recovered, but looking at the improvements that have occurred, recovery is possible in a short time,” said Luigi Carbone, Pope’s personal doctor in the Vatican during a press conference on Saturday (22).
Francisco was hospitalized in Agostino Gemelli on February 14, with a painting of bronchitis that had been persisted for several weeks, but the tests indicated bilateral pneumonia and a “complex” clinical condition due to a “polymicrobial” infection on the respiratory tract.
With this, he was hospitalized for 38 days, the longest period of hospitalization of a pontiff in the history of the Vatican. .
