In one of the last more recent processes of the genre, Daniela Klette, who was participating in Capoeira Wheels in Berlin, is accused of car robberies and supermarkets between 1999 and 2016, already after the dissolution of Raf. German fraction of the Red Army (RAF), also known as the Baader-Meinhof group.
The case receives great attention from the media, as always happens when it comes to the terrorist group that alarmed the former western Germany, in particular between the mid -70s and the beginning of the 80s.
Klette is accused of involvement in an attack on the bomb to an arrest of Hesssen and the attack of the American embassy in Bonn in the 80s and 90s, among other acts. But all this will still have to be clarified later, in another process, since the crimes committed during RAF times are not the subject of this judgment.
Together with Ernst-Volker Staub and Burkhard Garweg, Klette, now 66 years old, would have attacked cars and supermarkets between 1999 and 2016, especially in northern Germany, which is why the process occurs in low Saxony. While the blows were shot during the robberies, Klette is also accused of attempting to murder.
She was arrested in Berlin in February 2024, after years living in silence under the false identity in the Berlinian district of Kreuzberg, where she participated in the Brazilian community and attended the capoeira wheels, according to the German press. Staub and Garweg – like her, the members of the “third generation” of the RAF – remain in general.
Apparently Klette felt safe in Berlin. According to the relationships of the German press, he took a flight to Brazil with false documents, he made contact with the local Capoeira scene and published photos of the journey on his Facebook page.
Raf announced its dissolution in 1998, in a letter that the authorities consider authentic. The total of 13 robberies that Klette, Staub and Garweg are accused of working after which they no longer had the purpose of financed terrorist acts, but apparently only to support three revolutionaries. They would have stolen over 2.7 million euros.
The German fall
But when it comes to RAF, all careers and German investigators and justice. The process should take place in the city of Verden, in the Saxony of Baixa, but the local court was not considered safe enough. Therefore, an old equalizer in the city is adapted to receive the process. Until then, the process will take place in the city of Celle, also in Baixa Saxony.
This recalls the times when Raf shocked the old western Germany, especially in 1977, during what became known as German fall. At the time, a court was built in the arrest of Stuttgart-Tasmmheim, in particular for the group’s leaders’ trial, imprisoned there.
Since its first days, in the early 1970s, Raf, which is called the communist and anti -imperialist urban guerrilla, aimed at representatives of the German state and entrepreneurs. The group killed the Prosecutor General of the Republic Siegfried Buback and the head of Dresden Bank Jürgen Ponto. Overall, 27 RAF members were sentenced to life imprisonment in the following decades.
The group’s struggle against the German state reached its peak in the third quarter of 1977, in what became known as German fall. Raf kidnapped the president of the Federation of German employers and the German Federation of Industry, Hanns-Martin Schleyer, to force the liberation of the members of their prisoners.
When the German government, led by Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt (SPD), refused to negotiate, Raf’s Palestinians kidnapped a Lufthansa plane with German tourists in Hagge, Spain. After passing the Middle East, the plane is finally landed in Mogadixo, Somalia. There, an anti -terrorist unit of the German police saved all tourists.
Three of the four kidnappers were killed in the action. The pilot had already been assassinated by terrorists. As a result, they committed a prison in Stuttgart three of the terrorists who were accused of Schleyer’s kidnapping.
After six weeks of martyrdom in possession of the kidnappers, Schleyer was taken from the hiding place in Brussels in France, where they let him go to a field, giving him the impression of freedom, immediately after shooting him in their shoulders. His body was found on October 19, 1977, in the trunk of a car in the French territory, near Germany.
Sympathy at the far left
The German state won the fight against Raf, who continued to act, but never recovered his old force. During the 70s, many young German-western young people sympathized with the group, open or veiled, in their declared declaration “Fight against American imperialism”.
At the same time, in particular the media created a scenario of public threat from the group, which probably never existed. During his existence, the nucleus of the RAF active members did not include more than 80 people.
Klette never seems to have renounced the ideals and the revolutionary struggle of Raf. He should not make any declaration or confession of guilt for the judgment. Just before being held, he still managed to warn his former companions Garweg and Staub, who remain free.
The police believe she finds support on the extreme German left scene, in which there is a lot of sympathy for the RAF. The group’s surviving members are treated as myths from left -wing extremists. There have been several small events in front of the prison in which Klette was held for over a year in Baixa Saxony, as well as in Berlin.
