Prod tests Proceed PRGR against Jair Bolsonaro will resume on Wednesday (26), after the first day of sessions on the topic Tuesday.
The sentence of the complaint issued by the office of the Prosecutor General (PGR) against the former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and another seven for crimes as an attempt at a coup d’état will continue on the morning of Wednesday (26/3), at the headquarters of the first class of the Supreme Court (STF), in Brasilia.
The five class ministers analyze whether the complaint will be received by the court. If this happens, the group will become defendants.
As expected, the process attracted the attention of the public and generated an intense movement of research in the main research tools.
On Google, the name Bolsonaro even recorded a 700% increase on Tuesday (25/3).
On the basis of this tool, BBC News Brasil has listed some of the main issues raised by the Netizen regarding the process – which analysts and historians classify as a story.
In addition to the questions about the outcome of the first day of the trial, doubts have also occurred about the former senator and lawyer Demostens Torres, who defends the former commander of the navy admiral Almir Garnier.
Take a look at five of the main questions about Bolsonaro trial.
Did Bolsonaro become a defendant?
Not yet. In this week’s sessions, the first class of the Supreme Court will judge only if it receives the complaint offered by PGR or not.
If the ministers decide to refuse it, it can be filed.
On the other hand, if the first class vote to receive the complaint, Bolsonaro will be charged. Then the criminal action begins against the former president.
The first day of the complaint process was dedicated to the analysis of the so preliminary questions issued by the defense.
The decision whether or not the complaint should be received should take place during Wednesday session.
Preliminary questions often deal with the technical aspects of the investigation or process.
Although they seem less important than the case, some judgments often do not even continue when the defense can convince the magistrates through preliminary issues that an irregularity was committed during the investigation.
In the process of Bolsonaro and its allies, 10 preliminary questions were raised.
Among the main ones there were:
- Request to consider Minister Alexandre de Moraes prevented from judging the case
- Alleged absence of the right to a large defense due to the lack of access to all the documents collected during the investigations
- Request to cancel the accusation of Mauro Cid, a former Orders of Bolsonaro in the presidency, based on the topic that the pressure of signing it would be.
All preliminary issues have been rejected and therefore the process continued as expected.

Why is Bolsonaro tried?
Former president Jair Bolsonaro was criminally reported in February of this year, accused of led an alleged state -of -the -state plan after losing the 2022 elections to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT).
Another 33 people have been reported with him. The complaints have been divided into nuclei – the eight people whose complaints are judged now part of central 1.
The PGR asked the former president to respond for the crimes of the coup, the violent abolition of the state of democratic law, the armed criminal organization, the damage qualified by violence and a serious threat against the activities of the Union, as well as the deterioration of the overturned goods.
The complaint connects Bolsonaro’s action to the documents of January 8, 2023
The defense of the former president denies all the accusations.
Tuesday, his lawyer, Celso Vilardi, said Bolsonaro would have been the former “most investigated” president in the history of Brazil, but that Pgr would not have found elements that demonstrate the participation of the former president in the alleged plot of the coup.
According to the lawyer, it would be impossible to attribute responsibility for any coup d’état to Bolsonaro considering that the investigated documents would begin, according to the report of the PGR, in 2021.
“We are dealing with a execution that began in December 2021, facing the crime of the legitimately elected government. What was the legitimate government? […] Not even the whistleblower [Mauro Cid] Those who accused him made any relationship with him with him with January 8, “said the lawyer.
Added, the sanctions to which Bolsonaro can be sentenced can exceed 40 years of prison.
Where to look at the process?
One of the main questions raised by the Netizen was where or how to follow the process of Bolsonaro’s complaint.
TV Justice, managed by the STF, is broadcasting the process on TV and radio, as well as its YouTube channel.
The main TV and radio networks in Brazil are also broadcasting sessions in full or in bulletins.
In addition, BBC News Brazil will cover the main events of the second day of the complaint.
Who is Bolsonaro’s lawyer?

Bolsonaro’s defense coordinator is the lawyer Celso Sanchez Vilardi. He is a well -known criminal lawyer based in San Paolo who, in the last 30 years, has acted in some of the best known cases in the country.
Vilardi acted at the monthly trial, when he defended the former treasurer of the Pt Delúbio Soares.
One of his specialties was to act on charges of corruption.
In 2009, for example, he defended the contractor Camargo Corrêa and managed to cancel the investigations on the Sand Castle operation, launched by the Federal Police, who investigated the accusations of corruption similar to those revealed years later by the Lava Jato operation.
During Lava Jato, Vilardi acted for contractors such as Camargo Corrêa and Andrade Gutierrez.
In addition, he defended some of the headlines under investigation and even the winning collaboration agreements of the prize negotiated with the Federal Prosecutor’s Office (MPF).
Among the famous Vilardi customers are the businessman Eike Batista, who was also the target of Lava Jato.
Who is Deostene Torres?

Another term that also appeared in Netizen’s research regarding the sentence of the complaint was the name of the former Senator Demostens Torres.
Torres has made a career as a prosecutor at the Goiás public service (MP-Go) and as secretary to public security in Goiás, before entering the controversy for elective positions.
In 2002, he was elected Senator and re -elected eight years later, in 2010.
During this period, it was mentioned as one of the most influential parliamentarians in the country, especially during his role as opponent of the government of the then president Lula and in the middle of the monthly scandal.
In 2012, however, his name emerged in the investigations relating to the businessman Carlinhos Cachoeira, suspected when he had called animal game.
Demostenes was accused of reciting the congress, the judiciary and the manager in favor of the businessman Carlinhos Cachoeira, suspected of managing a corruption program and illegal games.
In return, according to the office of the Prosecutor General (PGR), the senator would have received $ 3.1 million from the entrepreneur group, as well as gifts.
Demostenes was also accused of lying in the Senate when he denied knowing the illegal activities of Cachoeira.
In July 2012, he was revoked by the Senate, becoming the second senator of the story to have his mandate revoked by the Chamber.
At the time, the senator said he had not benefited from the waterfall and not having received money from him. The parliamentary era declared that the federal police would make a “selective dissemination” of the recordings of their conversations with Cachoeira, with the aim of damaging it.
Defense of Demostene therefore questioned the validity of the recordings as proof in the process since they would not have been made with the authorization of the Supreme Court, the apparently adequate application to authorize this type of measure against privileged parliamentarians.
In 2016, four years after being revoked, the Supreme Court accepted the thesis of his defense and canceled the investigative evidence that connects his name to Carlinhos Cachoeira.
In recent years, Torres has still tried to return to political life and has run for the Federal deputy from Goiás in 2018, but could not be elected. Obtained 27,801 votes, less than 1% of the electorate.
Since then, Torres has dedicated himself to his legal career and today manages a law firm with a team of about 20 people.
He has worked in cases of national repercussions such as Medium João Teixeira de Faria, known as João de Deus, sentenced to 118 years in prison for sexual crimes.
