Will Smith Breaks Silence About Oscar Slap; look

Just over four months after slapping Chris Rock on stage at the 2022 Oscars, Will Smith has once again broken his silence on the case.

The actor has posted a video of almost 6 minutes long on his official YouTube channel, in which he apologizes for what happened and answers the questions that have been asked on the internet. Among them, he questions like “Why didn’t you apologize to Chris during the acceptance speech?” and “After Jada rolled her eyes, did she ask you to do something?”

Check out Will Smith’s video below:

“It’s been a minute … Over the past few months, I’ve been thinking a lot and doing a lot of personal work,” says the splash screen of the video Smith posted. So the text says that people have asked a lot of right questions and that Smith wanted to take some time before answering.

Next, Smith reads the questions he has been asked and answers, appearing rather repentant about what happened.

The first question was why Smith did not apologize to Chris Rock at the ceremony, in his acceptance speech for the Best Actor award, which he won that night. Smith took the opportunity to apologize and revealed that he contacted Chris Rock, but that the comedian is not ready to tell him about it yet.

“It’s all confused. I contacted Chris and the message that he is back is that he is not ready to talk. When he is, he will be in touch. I’m telling you Chris, I’m sorry. My behavior was unacceptable and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk, ”Smith revealed.

“I want to apologize to Chris’s mom. I saw an interview that [ela] he did, and it was one of the things I didn’t notice. I wasn’t thinking, but how many people got hurt at that time. I want to apologize to Chris’s mom, I want to apologize to Chris’s family, especially Tony Rock. We had a great relationship. Tony Rock was my boyfriend. This is probably irreparable ”.

“I have spent the past three months repeating and understanding the nuances and complexity of what happened at that moment. I am not going to try to undo this right now, but I can tell you everything, there is no part of me that thinks it was the right way to behave in that moment. No part of me thinks this is the ideal way to deal with a feeling of disrespect or insult. “

Then another question asked if Smith had slapped Chris Rock at the request of Jada Pinkett Smith, his wife. “No. I made a choice myself, based on my experience and my history with Chris,” the actor said. “Jada had nothing to do with it. I’m sorry, honey, and I want to apologize to my children and family for the inconvenience I have caused us all. “

He then apologized to the other Oscar nominees and winners for taking their attention away from the ceremony, as all attention went to the slap rather than the winners of the evening. “For all my fellow candidates, this is a community. I won because you voted for me and it really breaks my heart to have stolen and clouded your moment. I can still see Questlove’s eyes – it happened at the Questlove award – and ‘sorry’ isn’t really enough.

Finally, Will Smith left a message: “Two things. First, letting people down is my main trauma. I hate it when I let people down, so it hurts me psychologically and emotionally that I haven’t lived up to the image and impression people have of me. The work I am trying to do is that I am deeply sorry and I am trying to feel remorseless without being ashamed of myself. I am human and I have made a mistake and I am trying not to think of myself as a piece of me … so I would say to these people, I know it has been confused, I know it has been shocking, but I promise you that I am deeply devoted and committed to bringing light, love and joy into the world. If you can handle it, I promise you we can be friends again. “

remember the case

It all started at the 2022 Oscars ceremony, as comedian Chris Rock presented the Best Documentary category. At one point, Rock referred to Jada Pinkett Smith as “GI Jane 2,” referring to the 1997 film “By the Edge of Honor,” starring Demi Moore in which the actress appeared bald.

The joke in question refers to the shaved head the actress has been wearing since her alopecia problem escalated. Actor Will Smith, Jada’s husband, took the stage and slapped Chris Rock in the face, creating a lot of confusion during the ceremony and also in the audience watching him from home. Then the actor was filmed as he yelled “Take my wife’s name out of your bullshit … out of your mouth.”

The ceremony followed and Will Smith won the Best Actor award, and in the acceptance speech he began his apology to the Academy. The next day, the actor apologized to the Academy again and also apologized to Chris Rock himself.

He later retired from the Academy, only to be banned from the Academy from all of its events for 10 years. The actor accepted the Academy’s decision. For his part, Chris Rock has not filed formal complaints against Will Smith.
