The debate: the first film directed by Caio Blat gets the trailer

Paris Filmes has released the poster and trailer for “O Debate”, a political drama that marks the debut of actor Caio Blat (“California”) as a director.

The actor has strong sponsors to start his new role: the film was written by directors Guel Arraes (“O Auto da Compadecida”) and Jorge Furtado (“Real Beleza”).

The plot takes place during the last presidential debate before the second round of elections in Brazil and follows the conflicting point of view of two married journalists, who work together on a television station and separate after nearly 20 years. The protagonists are played by Débora Bloch (“Second Call”) and Paulo Betti (“Orfãos da Terra”) and, in addition to directing, Blat also makes an appearance in front of the camera.

The separation has been the backdrop to intense debates about love, freedom, politics and life in the country in recent years. He is the editor-in-chief and she is the presenter of the same news program, and their different opinions on how to conduct the edition of the best moments of the debate that the TV will broadcast can interfere in the choice of hundreds of thousands of undecided voters.

To be noted in the preview an atmosphere of theatrical staging, all centered on the dialogues between the two protagonists, and a “militant” prejudice, which recalls that co-screenwriter Jorge Furtado has already used a play as a starting point for a documentary questioning the politics of the cover press, “O Mercado de Notícias” (2014).

“The Debate” will be released in national theaters on August 25th.

The production is by Giros Filmes, which is already preparing the second film by Caio Blat as director: “Cacilda Becker em Cena Aberta”, which will see Marjorie Estiano (“Under Pressure”) in the role of the legendary Cacilda Becker, one of the greatest actresses of the history of theater in Brazil.
