“Very angry”: the change of Trump’s tone on Putin and the ceasefire in Ukraine

For the first time, Trump seriously threatened Russia with consequences for the freeo of the negotiations of ceased the fire in Ukraine. In an interview with NBC News, the President of the United States said he was “furious” with Putin’s attitudes

The President of the United States Donald Trump said he was “very angry” and “furious” with the Russian president Vladimir Putin after weeks trying to negotiate a fire in Ukraine.

In an interview with NBC News on Sunday (3/30), the president said he was annoyed by Putin for attacking the credibility of the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and threatened to impose a 50% rate on the countries that acquired Russian oil if he did not agree with the ceasefire.

“If Russia and I cannot agree to stop the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if I think it was Russia’s fault – which may not be … I would impose secondary rates … on all oil from Russia,” he said.

The comments mark a change in Trump’s tone on Putin and Russia.

The White House did not respond to requests for clarifications.

So far, Russia and Ukraine have reached an agreement only for a ceased in the Black Sea region, which wets both countries.

European leaders were concerned that Trump was approaching Putin while the negotiations for a ceased in Ukraine continued.

In the last six weeks, Trump has criticized Zelensky in the Oval Hall and has requested several concessions from the Ukrainian president. In turn, he beat Putin and gave way to the requests of the Russian president.

This seems to be a change in this dynamic. This is the first time that the United States seriously threaten Russia with consequences to slow down the negotiations of ceased fire, which seem to put back the diplomatic responsibility in the hands of Moscow.

NBC News reported that in a 10 -minute telephone interview, Trump said he was very annoyed when Putin criticized the credibility of Zelensky’s leadership, although the president himself called the Ukrainian leader of the dictator and asked him to keep the elections.

“It could be said that I was very angry, furious, when … Putin started to question Zelensky’s credibility, because he is not going in the right way,” said Trump.

Putin suggested a few days ago that the Ukrainian government should be temporarily placed on the United Nations Control, rather than Zelensky.

“New leadership means that you will not have an agreement for a long time,” added Trump.

Speaking of Putin, Trump said that the Kremlin knew his anger, but he noticed that he had “an excellent relationship” with the Russian leader and “the anger dissipates quickly … if it does the right thing”.

If Russia does not comply with the ceasefire, Trump has threatened to attack the Russian economy if he believed Putin’s fault.

“There will be a 25% rate on oil and other products sold in the United States, secondary rates,” said Trump, observing that Russia’s rates would have been applied in a month if there was no fire agreement.

Secondary rates could reach up to 50% of the products that enter the United States from countries that still acquire oil from Russia. The major buyers come from afar, China and India.

Zelensky wrote on social networks after the interview that “Russia is still looking for apologies to further prolong this war”.

He said “Putin has been playing the same game he has played since 2014”, when Russia unilaterally attached the Crimea peninsula.

“This is dangerous for everyone – and there must be an appropriate response from the United States, Europe and all our global partners looking for peace”.

Trump said he would talk to Putin this week.

Russia has launched a large -scale invasion of its neighbor, in Ukraine, in February 2022. Currently it controls about 20% of the Ukrainian territory.

More than 100,000 people fighting the Russian army died when the war in Ukraine enters the fourth year, according to the data analyzed by the BBC Russia, the group of media and volunteers who counted the dead since February 2022.

Ukraine updated its victims last December 2024, when President Volodymyr Zelensky recognized 43,000 Ukrainian deaths between soldiers and officers. Western analysts believe that this figure is underestimated.

Third term?

In the same interview, Trump said he did not “joke” when he said he did not exclude that he was looking for a third term to the White House, despite being banned from the Constitution of the United States.

“Many people want me to do this,” said Trump. “But, I mean, in practice I tell them that we still have a lot to do.”

Price of the car

Donald Trump also said that “it could not be less worried” if the car manufacturers increase prices after implementing their rates by 25% on outdoor vehicles.

Some analysts have warned that Trump’s import charges could lead to the temporary interruption of part of the production of US cars, with higher prices transmitted to US consumers.

Last Wednesday, Trump announced new rates of 25% on cars and parts of cars that enter the United States, starting from April 2nd. The charges are expected for companies that import vehicles import on April 3 and parts of parts should start in May or then.

When asked about what your message would be for the garments of the car manufacturers, he replied: “The message is congratulations. If you make your car in the United States, you will make a lot of money.”
