Snow White: 5 most common complaints about Disney’s live action

Disney continues to force the renovations of the live-action from its classics to the public, an inalpaded attempt to profit from nostalgia rather than creating new stories. This alone decreases interest in general and promotes complaints.

To worsen things, “Snow White” was the target of the dispute from the production phase. However, it seems that these disputes have had a minimum impact on the performance of the film and financial failure seems to be more correlated to the bad reception of critics and the public.

Snow White: 5 most common complaints about Disney’s live action

The long journey of Disney remake has certainly had several successes and failures. Accompanied by a series of criticism, the “Snow White” live action has only collected about $ 87.3 million globally during his debut weekend, according to the Box Office Mojo. The problem is that the film presumably costs more than $ 270 million.

Even before cinema, the film had already received numerous criticisms. Now that the final result is on the big screen, a new wave of disputes has arrived below 5 of the most common complaints about the live action “Snow White”.

1.

In 2022, the actor Peter Dinklage criticized Disney not only from the way the company usually portrays people with nanism exclusively as magical beings and without depths, but also because studies do not take on actors with genetic conditions for documents that do not adapt to the stereotype.

The Disney solution for this live action? The seven dwarfs are CGI instead of actors. In addition to the ethical problems of this decision, many critics have said that the result was disturbing and, of course, too artificial.

It is worth noting that this same complaint appeared in several remake of Disney live-action, in particular those that mix real actors with CGI creatures.

2. Changes in the script

Another reason why “Snow White” had difficulty impressing the public was the change in the motto of the 1937 film. In the remake, Snow White no longer wanted to find true love, however, the protagonist aspires to live according to the expectations of his father.

Although it is clear that the company is trying to avoid stereotypes that the oldest films usually adopt, important complaints point out that Disney is having difficulty in calibrating changes in the modernization of the stories.

3. Cash controversial

Several people were angry with the announcement that Rachel Zegler would take on the main role in the film. The topic would be that a mixed ethnic actress should not take on the role of a character who is described as “white as the snow” skin.

Since most Disney live-action films are musical, it is very evident when chosen stars cannot sing. So Zegler believes he has the role because he can sing. In any case, criticism states that the actress’s work is one of the greatest positive highlights of the film.

On the other hand, although “Snow White” was the first musical role of Gal Gadot, the actress could not make the new song by The Bad Queen. And in the end, this villain has not convinced the public, in some parts that Gadot cannot stand out without the support of the script and direction.

One of the advantages of animation is that everything that is imagined can be brought quietly to the screens. Even an old film like the original “Snow White and Seven Dwarfs” (1937) has breathtaking scenes – all thanks to the meticulous details in every cell of animation.

But the aesthetic question was a little more complicated by live action, since the adaptation had to lean so much in the CGI. That is, since the film was to be loaded with computer graphics, the concept of live action seems to have lost its meaning. In addition, the scenes have not received the fascinating whim of the animated version.

5. Disney is focusing on pleasant adults

Disney animated films have always focused mainly on children and live-action remakes should have the same intention, although they are widely seen as a way to make money from nostalgia.

A project like “Snow White” should be more aimed at a young audience than to the older audience. However, changes have been made to the script and production to please adults, in particular those with Internet access. Once again, Disney fell into the trap of making a live-action remake has focused openly on the adult audience.
