Mother of Student with Autism accuses the exclusion school of Porto Alegre: “The teacher said he would cut the language”

The mother recorded a report and reported a formal complaint to the competent bodies

A mother accuses the Cidade Jardim State School of Elementary School, in the Nonoi neighborhood, south of Porto Alegre, of abandonment, psychological violence and exclusion against the autistic son, six years old. According to the relationship, the boy said that a teacher said he would cut the language. He said he even showed a box saying that containing “languages of other students who spoke too much”. The complaint was strengthened by the woman’s granddaughter, who studies in the same school. The situation would occur last Wednesday (2).

During a meeting with the school coordination, the mother reported that the coordinator was enhanced when he was informed of the situation. At a certain point in the conversation, the teacher itself invaded the room aggressively and had to be contained by other employees. The director would have asked his mother not to call the police and his mother reports that he had forced herself at that moment. After the meeting, the son and nephew would have been left again under the responsibility of the same teacher involved in the complaint, violating an agreement signed between the mother and the school council.

In addition to reports of verbal and psychological violence, the mother denounces bad structural conditions in the school courtyard. According to her, the area has the risk of collapse, glass fragments, wooden pieces with nails, thorns and loose stones, not suitable for children’s activities. The mother says that the school itself would have guided her parents to send children with sneakers and sweatshirts to try to deal with possible falls. There are also reports that the intervals occur without the supervision of adults, which would put children at risk.

The situation would have worsened after the school vice principal suggested that the mother would remove her son and nephew by the institution, claiming that the school “did not satisfy her needs” because of autism. The mother understood the gesture as an attempt to exclude. He says he has not accepted the suggestion and remains struggle for a solution. “This is not an inclusion, it is exclusion,” he said. At the moment, he receives support from a assistance group to autistic families and is acting with the Council for the protection and coordination of the education secretariat.

The mother presented a report and reported the formal complaint to the competent bodies. It reports difficulties in earning a quick service from institutions and claims to overload the procedures. Other children with disabilities in the same school would also find themselves facing similar situations, which strengthens suspicions that the case is not isolated.

Wanted by the report, the Department of Education (Seduc) has issued a note by stating that it is following the situation. The school council was also tried to provide clarifications, but until the closure of this edition it did not speak.

“The 1st coordination of regional education (CRE) is following the situation of the City Jardim School, in Porto Alegre. The 1st Creat Core and the pedagogical division of the 1st Creat hosted the people involved, and an administrative process was established,” Seduc said in a note.
