Totti ignores criticism and arrives in Moscow for homage

Roma Idol’s trip to Russia has created controversy in Italy

Former Italian footballer Francesco Totti arrived in Moscow, Russia, Monday (7) to participate in a prize promoted by a local platform dedicated to sports betting.

The Idol of Rome will receive the RB Award, granted by the evaluations of the bookmaker and which in the past has already honored names such as the Brazilian Cafu and the Portuguese Luís Figo.

Totti’s visit to Russia is the result of the largest investment ever made by the bookmaker’s assessments from the creation of the prize in 2019.

In an interview with the newspaper Vedomiti, the director of the platform, Asker Tkhalidzhokov, revealed that the participation of the former Roma player in the ceremony cost a “euro figure with six zeros”.

Totti has undergone criticism in Italy for visiting Russia in the middle of the war in Ukraine, while the Vladimir Putin regime is the goal of heavy sanctions of the European Union, but Tkhalidzhokov has minimized the controversy.

“From the point of view of public relations, it is undoubtedly a success. We have not had the same foreign media coverage in the previous editions,” said the director of the portal, adding that “dozens of Italian newspapers published articles with the logos of our website and prize”.

However, in order to avoid “possible pressures on Totti”, the managers of the RB Prize have decided to cancel some activities in the Italian capital.

“If we had done, they would probably have generated more agitation. Since there is a certain political pressure, Totti’s representatives did not ask for advertising events to be held in Italy,” explained Tkhalidzhokov.
