Robert De Niro will be honored at the opening of the Cannes Film Festival, marking another important participation in his long trajectory at the event
ROBERT DE NIRO will return toCannes Film Festival for a special tribute: the actor will be awarded theHonorary Gold Palm During the opening ceremony of the 78th edition of the event, which will take place on May 13th. The next day, he will also conduct an exclusive class to the festival public.
Assiduous goer of Cannes, Of nyro was at the event in 2023 for the debut of Flower Moon Assassinsdirected by Martin Scorsese. In 2011, he presided over the festival’s official jury. In addition, he starred in two films that took the Golden Palm: Taxi driver (1976), from Martin Scorseseand Mission (1986), from Roland Joffe.
Among his most recent works are the film Día Cerolaunched by Netflixand the drama The Alto Knightsdirected by Barry Levinsonin which he plays two mobster leaders.
“I have feelings very close to the Cannes Festival,” said the actor in a statement released by the organization. “Especially now, when there is so much in the world separating us, Cannes unites us – counters of stories, filmmakers, fans and friends. It’s like coming home.”
The 2025 Cannes Film Festival takes place between May 13th and 24th.
