Actor Joseph Quinn, who played Eddie Munson on the fourth season of “Stranger Things,” met Metallica’s musicians backstage at the band’s performance at Lollapalooza, which took place Thursday (7/28) in Chicago. Also, he was invited to play with the band during a rehearsal, repeating his own performance from the series, when he plugged in a guitar to play “Master of Puppets”. Eventually, he won a guitar from the show, signed by the artists.
During the interaction, Quinn won praise. “Thank you for doing the music justice,” said singer James Hetfield, who also revealed that he is a fan and has been following “Stranger Things” from season one with his children.
All of this was recorded on video and posted on social media by Netflix and Metallica themselves. Look down.
“Stranger Things” helped earn “Master of Puppets” on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. After its highlight in the final episode of season 4 of the Netflix series, the song emerged at number 40 on the Billboard pop music chart.
The 1986 recording, which names the American band’s third studio album, had never made it to any of the Billboard charts, making its debut only now, 36 years after its release. With that, it became the oldest Metallica song to become a hit. Until then, 1988’s “One” held this record, peaking at # 35 on the Hot 100 at the time of its release.
Shortly after Part 2 of “Stranger Things 4” first streamed in early July, the band even praised the song’s inclusion in the series, saying it had been an “incredible honor”.
The band also released a video on TikTok in which they do a virtual “duet” with the scene where Eddie Munson plays “Masters of Puppets” on guitar. In “Stranger Things”, the 1986 rock classic is played by Eddie over a trailer, to lure flying demons into the heaviest metal moment in the series.
