We can stop Iranian oil exports, says the secretary of the United States energy

The secretary of the Energy of the United States Chris Wright said on Friday that the United States could interrupt Iranian oil exports as part of the plan of President Donald Trump to press Tehran for his nuclear program.

The return of January to the White House of Trump, who in his first mandate removed the United States from a nuclear agreement in 2015 with Tehran and limited his oil exports, has again led a hard closer to the power of the Middle East than his nuclear work.

Wright, speaking with Reuters in a visit to Abu Dhabi, said he thought that the allies of the Gulf of the United States are extremely worried about Iran with nuclear power and share the determination of the United States that this is a result that is nobody in the interest of anyone.

The Iranian oil exports resumed under the command of Joe Biden, who became president after Trump’s first term, and so far in 2025 they have not yet shown a decline, according to data in the sector. China, which opposes unilateral sanctions, acquires most of the Iran’s shipments.

“This is really very practicable. President Trump really did it in his first term,” Wright said when he was asked how the United States can apply his maximum pressure policy on Tehran. “We can follow the ships that come out of Iran. We know where they go. We can interrupt the export of Iran oil.”

When asked if the United States would have directly prevented Iranian ships from the sea, he said: “I will not talk about the specific methodology of how it will happen. But can we make the screws of Iran? 100%”.

Iran said on Friday that he was giving high -level nuclear negotiations with the United States on Saturday “a real possibility” after Trump threatened to bomb if the discussions failed.

When asked if a military action against Iran would have led to a change of regime, he said he wouldn’t have talked about specific details, but “everything is at the table”.

“In the short term, due to the strength of the production of American energy and our relationships with our allies, we will harden the penalties and reduce the ability of Iran to export oil. Start with the negotiations and we hope this will be enough. But in the end, Iran will not have nuclear weapons.”
