It is difficult to maintain two F1 races in Italy, says the head of the category

The head of Formula 1, Stefano Domenicali, has indicated that the Imola race can leave the competition, since it is unlikely that Italy maintains two main prizes in a 24 -phase calendar with many candidates.

“Italy has always been and will be an important part of Formula 1,” said the Italian Radio Rai.

“It will be increasingly difficult to have two breeds in the same country, because the interest in F1 is growing and is a situation that we will have to face in the coming months,” he added.

“It is difficult for Imola and Monza to continue in the calendar for a long time.”

Originally from Imola, whose breed is called the Great Prize of Emilia Romagna, the former chief of the chief of Ferrari said that it would not have been an easy decision from a personal point of view, but had to adopt a global approach.

Imola returned to the Formula 1 calendar during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and maintained its place, although the 2023 race was canceled due to floods that devastated the region.

Monza, home of the Italian Grand Prix, was on the calendar every year from the first championship of 1950, with the only exception of 1980, and is Ferrari’s spiritual house. It has a contract until 2031.

No other European country has two races, even if Spain should overlap next season with Madrid which is the new website of the Spain Grand Prix, when Barcelona is in the last year of its contract.

The Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort has already announced that it will not continue after 2026.

The United States have three races and has already been said that China has a second. Thailand is also in negotiations to have a 2028 phase and Africa.
