Netflix confirms that season two will be the last and will have 11 episodes, debut in July
Netflix announced on Thursday (17) that the second season of The Sandman will be divided into two parts and will mark the closing of the series. The new year will have a total of 11 episodes, with the first six available on July 3, and the remaining five debuting on July 24. The streaming service also released the first teaser of the outcome, which shows a meeting between dream and his brothers of the perpetual family.
Based on the comic series created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Keith and Mike Dringenbergoriginally published by DC Comics, The Sandman accompany Morpheus (or dream), interpreted by Tom Sturridgean immortal entity that rules the dream world. In the second chapter of history, dream faces the consequences of his past mistakes by trying to save himself, his kingdom and the world awake.
“After a decisive reunion with your family, dreams of the perpetual will need to face a series of impossible decisions to protect everything you have left,” says the official synopsis. “To seek redemption, he will face old friends and enemies, gods, monsters and mortals – but the way to forgiveness is full of twists, and true acquittal can cost everything.”
The decision to close The Sandman had already been taken during the production of season two in 2023, as revealed by Variety. Official confirmation only came in January this year, during the same period as Gaimanauthor of the original work and executive producer of the series, became the subject of accusations of sexual misconduct.
The cast of the final season has the returns of Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Mason Alexander Park, Donna Preston, Gwendoline Christie, Jenna Coleman, Patton Oswalt, Stephen Fryamong other names. Among the new additions are ESMÉ CREED-MILES, Adrian Lester, Jack Gleeson and Steve Coogan.
With production of Warner Bros. Television For Netflix, the series is led by Allan Heinbergwhich signs the executive production next to David S. Goyer and the Gaiman. All episodes of the second season were directed by Jamie Childs.
