The ambassador will represent Israel in Pope Funeral on Saturday

Diplomat at the Holy See Tribute in Francisco in a funeral

The Israeli ambassador of the Holy See, Yaron Sideman, paid tribute to the body of Pope Francis on Wednesday evening during the Basilica of the Vatican of San Pietro and confirmed at the funeral attended next Saturday (26).

“I came on behalf of the state of Israel,” wrote the diplomat on his profile on the social network X.

Sideman’s visit to Francisco’s funeral occurs after the Israeli government has decided to exclude a publication on social networks that offered condolences for the death of the Argentine.

Among the controversy, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remained silent, while the president of the town, Isaac Herzog, dedicated a message to the leader of the Catholic Church.

In an Ansa declaration, Sideman confirmed that, as an ambassador in Israel with the Holy See, he will officially represent his country on the Francisco funeral. However, he explained that “usually to the official representatives of the state of Israel it is forbidden to participate in the formal activities on Saturday”.

“Since the funeral will take place on Saturday, Israel attributes great importance to the expression of its condolences and the union of the Catholic world in mourning for the death of the pontiff”, concluded Sideman, noting that, in this case, an exception was granted due to the importance of Jorge Bergoglia. .
