iCarly Star Jennette McCurdy Revealed Why She Decided To Name Her Psychological Abuse Autobiography ‘I’m Glad My Mom Died’
Jennette McCurdyinterpreter of Sam Puckett in Icarly (2007), revealed the process behind the cover of the autobiography I’m glad my mom died (Free translation: I’m glad my mother died). The former actress explained about the name of the work in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
McCurdy stated that the book’s cover underwent many changes before arriving at the desired final version: “The confetti coming out of the urn seemed like a good way to capture the mood of the tragedy, but I knew I didn’t want to go so far as to throw the confetti or jump in the air with a huge smile on your face. “Ultimately, I chose a facial expression that I consider to be sincere, a little hurt and a little hopeful,” continued the former actress. McCurdy highlighted how the subject is addressed in the work: “It was important for me to explore the emotional and psychological abuse I suffered during my time as a young artist.”
The star added: “I feel like I didn’t have the tools, language or support I needed to speak for myself back then, so this book is a way to not only honor that experience and give voice to my old self, but hopefully encourage young people to speak for themselves in environments where they can be conditioned to just ‘play ball’ and ‘be good at sports.’”
In I’m Glad My Mom Died, McCurdy reveals how her toxic relationship with her domineering mother “pushed” her to star in Nickelodeonwhich fueled the youngster’s anxiety and shame that manifested in eating disorders, addictions, and a host of unhealthy relationships.
The scenario became even more serious when the mother of the former actress died in 2013, shortly after the young woman joined the cast of the TV series. NickelodeonSam & Cat(2013), in which he played one of the main characters alongside the star Ariana Grande.
