The news of the recently announced Ivan Drago spin-off film probably came as a surprise to many. Rocky fans but, above all, it was definitely a shock for the creator of the franchise Sylvester Stallone. After highlighting his already controversial relationship with producers Irwin and David Winkler on property rights, Stallone shared some not-so-pleasant thoughts on the spinoff, saying the filmmakers were taking advantage of the beloved franchise. After seeing the 76-year-old actor’s powerful thoughts, Drago himself, Dolph Lundgren, responded with his post on social media.
Honestly, it was only a matter of time before Dolph Lundgren found out about Sylvester Stallone’s displeasure over the spin-off news. Seeing Sylvester Stallone’s words, Lundgren has apparently contacted the Hollywood icon. He and Stallone have been close for years, in stark contrast to the controversial relationship between Rocky Balboa and Ivan Drago. After talking to his friend about him, him aquaman and the lost kingdom the actor took his instagram to address the discussion and clarify some facts about Draco’s film:
Just to set the record straight about a possible Drago spin-off. There is no approved script, no deal in place, no director, and personally I felt like my friend Sly Stallone was involved as a producer or even an actor. There was a press leak last week that was unfortunate. In touch with Mr. Balboa, just so all fans can relax … There he is.
The whole ordeal was therefore a misunderstanding, according to the 64-year-old actor. According to the star, nothing is set in stone as there is still no plot for the proposed spin-off. At the very least, he should be commended for stepping up and addressing the controversy caused by the news.
Dolph Lundgren’s statement reveals a particularly interesting curiosity, namely that he apparently felt as if Sylvester Stallone was somehow involved in the spin-off film. Although based on recent developments, it would appear that the Oscar nominee is no longer on the list. Recently, Stallone made it clear that he was upset that he didn’t own Rocky Yes I believe, although it essentially spawned the franchise. One wonders how Lundgren got the impression that his former on-screen training partner was working on the project.
Rumors have been circulating for some time about the development of the proposed spin-off film. The Drago spin-off continues with Robert Lawton, who was chosen to write the screenplay. As Dolph Lundgren said, not much is known about the film, although the story probably revolves around Ivan Drago and his son, Viktor, who appeared in I believe II. We’ll have to wait and see how MGM processes bids for potential returning stars.
Meanwhile, Michael B. Jordan I believe III has just suffered a setback as the third part has been postponed to March 3, 2023, from the original release date of November 23, 2022. Sylvester Stallone may not be part of the Rocky franchise more, but it seems that under the current manufacturers will continue to grow in one way or another.
We’ll be keeping an eye on more news on the Drago spinoff as it arrives. Also, be sure to keep an eye on Gossipify’s upcoming lineup of movies, which still has many exciting titles. You can also get an Amazon Prime membership to watch the first two I believe movies if you need boxing related fees.
