Until April 30, Brazil receives the first edition of European Film Festival IMOVisionwith 14 unprecedented films awarded in international festivals. The screenings take place in 75 movie theaters across the country, including inland cities. The program features productions from countries such as Germany, France, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Norway, Switzerland and Ukraine.

Jean-Thomas Bernardinipresident of IMOVISIONhighlighted the importance of an event dedicated exclusively to European cinema in Brazil.

“There was never a European festival [no país]. It’s amazing, because there are many festivals of all categories, less European, and European cinema is the second world, after the United States, “he said (via UOL).

Bernardini explained that the creation of the festival was a natural choice. “We distributed almost 600 films in Brazil, and I think about 400 are Europeans. So it’s natural to make a festival in which we understand deeply,” he said.

According to him, European cinema is often underestimated, despite its quality and diversity of themes.

“The European film has the same quality, almost, than the American movie, and in many cases even more. European cinema is better than Hollywood. It’s a type of cinema open for any audience, even those who are not used to watching independent movies,” he said.

Bernardini also emphasized the importance of bringing these productions to cities outside the major centers. “It is an opportunity for the public of cities outside the major centers, which does not have so much access to European cinema,” he added.

Among the films shown are Dreamswinner of Gold bear at the Berlin Festival 2025, and Emmanuellerereading the 1974 erotic classic, directed by the French Audrey Diwan.

About the challenge of holding the festival on a large scale, Bernardini commented: “This is the first time we will present [o festival] in 75 rooms.
