Data lights Notice for an increased risk of various chronic diseases

Obesity is considered one of the major challenges of public health by the World Health Organization (WHO). It is a chronic and progressive disease with global epidemic impact. In Brazil, a survey revealed that within six years, 68% of the population could be overweight and 26% could be considered obese. These data emerge from the study “The obesity epidemic and the NCDS – cause, costs and overload in the Sus“, Made by a team of 17 researchers from various Brazilian universities and a Chilean.

The numbers reveal a worrying scenario for the health of the Brazilians. According to the study, seven out of ten people could be overweight and one in four will be obese. Given this scenario, a promising alternative that has gained importance is the intragastric ball, a non -surgical method indicated for the treatment of overweight and obesity. This is what Leonardo Salles, doctor and president of Mineiro Institute of Obesity (Imo).

“The balloon is inserted empty through the mouth and filled with a saline solution inside the stomach. When the prosthesis is already placed, which is made of silicone, it occupies the food space and reduces the speed of passage through the organ of the digestive system, allowing the person subject to the treatment to have more satiety for a much longer period, even to eat little”, explains Leonardo Sazies.

The procedure was a solution for many patients looking for a less invasive approach than traditional bariatric interventions. “In addition to being a secure option, it is reversible and has shown positive results in weight loss. The balloon should remain in the stomach within six-12 months, depending on the needs of each patient. Within a year, there is a fall of falling around 20% to 30% of the weight”, says the IMO hospital doctor.

Given the projections for 2030, the expert emphasizes that the adoption of a multidisciplinary approach, which combines the use of the intragastric ball with changes in lifestyle, is essential for the success of the treatment. “This includes the implementation of balanced diets, exercise programs and psychological support, ensuring that the patient maintains long -term results,” he concludes.
