Every day, AlloCiné recommends watching a movie (again) on TV. Tonight: Belmondo-Delon duo in iconic gangster film.
On the set of La Piscine, Alain Delon, who had just read Eugène Saccomano’s novel, Bandits in MarseilleTelling the story of the adventures of two young robbers who try to become the kings of the Marseille underworld, Jacques Deray offers a big screen adaptation. This has been done since 1970.
Retitled Borsalino (after the famous brand of hats), the film brings together Alain Delon and Jean-Paul Belmondo as headliners for the first time, the ones who briefly shook hands on the set of Is Paris Burning?
Despite mixed critics, the feature film was a huge success with the public with over 4.7 million admissions. A success that was barely tainted by a legal dispute between the two stars over the story of the contract wording on the film’s poster – if not for the press of the time, which took the opportunity to embroider around their ‘rivalry’.
With an average viewer rating of 3.7 out of 5 on AlloCiné, Borsalino It’s a classic French gangster film that, in addition to its main selling point, lacks rhythm and flavor. In 1974, its sequel, Borsalino and Co. (with Delon, but without Belmondo), appeared on the screens, but was not well received at the box office.
Borsalino By Jacques Deray with Jean-Paul Belmondo, Alain Delon, Andre Boulet…
