Romania returned to the polls on Sunday 4, six months after the cancellation of the presidential elections in the country, for accusations of fraud in the countryside and suspected Russian interference. This time, the populist George Simion has won about 40% of the votes, being less than 50% necessary to avoid a second round, which will take place on the 18th. The dispute will be between Simion and the mayor of Bucharest, Nicusor Dan.

The new face of the far right in Romania, George Simion, is an unconditional fan of the United States President Donald Trump. At 38, he is the leader of the party of the ultra -annualist alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), founded in 2019 and today is the second greatest strength of the Romania Parliament.
Favorite candidates for opinion polls, George Simion refuses the distant label and is based on the refusal of the country’s elites and traditional political figures, dominated by liberals and socialists.
Critic about the leadership of the European Union, Simion is still stating that the “Brussels bureaucrats have not been elected” and intend to “deprive Romania of resources to impover it and exercise better control in the country”. He promises to cut military support to Ukraine, but he intends to say that he is not pro-Russian.
Responsible for the organization of protests in Bucharest to contest the cancellation of the presidential elections of November, Simion said that if elected he could appoint Calin Georgescu – the candidate of the Kremlin removed from the political scene – as his prime minister.
Open against homosexual marriage, the “Romanian Trump” as it is called, often says that Covid was an invention aimed at establishing an authoritarian regime and that vaccines served to deploy a chip and control citizens through the 5G network. The nationalist militant, Simion defends the annexation of Moldova in Romania, as well as supporting the recovery of the Ukrainian border regions – Bessárbia, North Bucovina and Transcripiatia – which were once part of her country.
Elections canceled in November
The ultra-nationalist pró-month Calin Georgescu has never been affiliated with a political party and was a practically unknown name until last November won a surprising victory in the first round of the presidential elections of Romania.
After the relationships of intelligence who suggest that he would receive “preferential care” to Tiktok and Russian interference in the elections to promote his candidacy, Romanian justice has canceled the elections, immersing the country in political chaos.
The cancellation has brought politicians from the extreme all over the world, including the Vice -President of the United States Jdvance to accuse Buccarest of running on the freedom of expression and ignoring “the voice of the people”. Georgescu, who is a great admirer of Russian President Vladimir Putin, is under judicial supervision and is the goal of a criminal investigation for false declarations on financing his countryside and his goods, as well as other crimes.
Shot towards the far right
A possible Simion’s victory in the second round should change the Posture of Bucharest in relation to the European block. Declared Euro -Customer, the Romanian distant candidate in Brussels, in Brussels, be another indigestible ultra -annualist leader together with the Hungarian Viktor Orbán and Slovak Robert Fico.
Romania, which joined the blockage in 2007, is the country of the European Union which has the largest border with Ukraine. Although it guarantees the importance of NATO, George Simion would not be willing to maintain military aid in Kiev. He does not agree that his country has given Missile Patriots to the Ukrainians, even if he has opened his ports to allow the export of Kiev cereals. It is worth remembering that Romania is an important way of traffic of weapons and ammunition for Ukraine.
Analysts fear that the arrival of Simion in power can isolate Romania abroad, reduce private investments and destabilize NATO’s eastern side. Romania, whose economy will grow only 1.2% this year, had the highest EU budget deficit last year, which will force the government to apply austerity measures soon and increase some taxes.
