Cinemaa Judicial Fight Behind Top Gun: Maverick; Cousin of the writer wants compensation of the co-writer Eric Singer claims to have written key scenes of the film and moves a lawsuit against the paramountpor writing

A process related to the script of Top Gun: Maverick It was opened in the United States. Shaun Graycousin of co-writer Eric Singerclaims to have made significant contributions to the film without receiving credit or compensation.

In the process obtained by Rolling StoneGray says he started working with Singer in June 2017, after being invited to help writing the script. For five months, he said, attended meetings with Singer and the director Joseph Kosinskiand wrote scenes that would have been fundamental to the success of the feature.

The final script of Maverick is credited to Singer, Christopher Mcquarrie and EHREN KRUGERwith the “history by” attributed to Peter Craig and Justin Marks.

Among the 12 scenes described in the action as its own are:
– The opening sequence, with Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) breaking the speed record in an experimental jet;
– A training exercise in which Maverick surpasses Top Gun cadets;
-And the climax, with the forced landing of a F-14 stolen by Maverick and Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Teller).

Gray Process PARAMOUNT PICTURES and the Global Paramount and seeks recognition as copyright co -author of the film, as well as financial compensation. According to him, there are e-mails and files that prove their direct participation in the development of the script. The action also points out that both Singer and Kosinski praised their contributions during the creative process.

Although mainly acting with visual effects, Gray has some credits as a screenwriter at IMDB, including the series Shantamco-created by Singer, and collaborations not credited in The International (2009) and Only the Brave (2017).

Gray’s lawyer is Marc Toberoffthe same one that represented the family of Ehud Yonayjournalist who wrote the article “Top Guns”, the base of the 1986 original film. In this previous case, a judge decided against the Yonay, who now appealed from the decision.

In a note sent to the press, Paramount stated: “This process, as well as the previous one moved by Mr. Toberoff trying to benefit from the success of Top Gun: Maverickis totally unfounded. We are confident that the court will reject this claim as well. ”

Toberoff replied: “As the studio well knows, this action has absolutely no relation to the previous process. Paramount can deny and dodge as much as he wants, but Annex 2 of the petition clearly documents Shaun Gray’s significant co-authorship in the script, with details of files and emails sent to Eric Singer and, in some cases, director Joe Kosinski.”
