The 78th edition of the Cannes Festival begins this Tuesday, May 13, and Brazil is in evidence at the event, which is one of the most prestigious in cinema. This year, the country is honored at Marché du Film, a kind of movie market that occurs at the festival.

Tribute to Marianna Brennand

The Brazilian Director Marianna Brennand (Manas) will be honored at the Cannes 2025 Festival with the reward Emerging Talent Award, an important international distinction aimed at new female voices in the cinema. Brennand will receive a scholarship of 50 thousand euros, a support from the Women In Motion so that women women can develop their long seconds.

La RéSIDENCE

It is not known to everyone, but the Cannes Festival has a script development project, with individualized guidance and meetings with film industry professionals. This is La Résidence du Festival of Cannes, a program that has hosted more than 250 filmmakers from about 60 countries-including names like the Brazilian Karim aïnouz and the Spanish Carla Simónwhich competes for the Golden Palm this year.

Rodrigo Ribeyro represents Brazil at the 49th edition of the program after being awarded at Cinéfondation in 2021. During his stay at the festival, Rodrigo will develop the feature Mugangawho accompanies two friends who decide to escape an ordinary working day in Sao Paulo to explore the Cantareira forest. However, while in the woods, a nuclear attack hits the city, turning it into a radioactive zone. Isolated from the world, they need to survive in the midst of nature – a journey that mixes mystery, science fiction and self -discovery.
