The United Kingdom plans to double the permanent residence for some immigrants who are already in the country

The British government is planning to convince some immigrants who live in the country to wait up to five years to qualify for the permanent residence, according to the plans of Prime Minister Keir Stmeerer to reduce the number of immigrants.

On Monday, the government announced the reforms of immigration which, among other measures, would have doubled the time necessary so that a person could automatically qualify for the right to remain in the United Kingdom or to request citizenship from five to 10 years.

It was not immediately clear whether the change of rule would have applied to those who already live in the United Kingdom or to the people who have just moved to the country and should start the process.

Government officials declared on Thursday that although those who arrive with a family visa or how employees keep the course five years, the interior minister, Yvette Cooper, wants the longest deadline to apply to all the others.

A law firm, the faction, said that the modification may also not be applied to immigrants of the European Union who required resident status after Brexit, since its treatment was agreed as part of the united kingdom departure by the block by 2020.

A spokesman for stmerus said that immigration plans would be consulted before the introduction of any changes.

For a long time, immigration is one of the most important issues for British voters. The control of the number of arrivals was a key factor in the 2016 vote to leave the EU, but liquid arrivals reached record levels after the country has left the blockade, helping to increase the right wing of Nigel Farage.

Starmer, presenting proposals to reduce immigration, was severely criticized by some in his own party and outside of it, after warning that the United Kingdom was in danger of becoming “an island of strangers” and saying that immigration was out of control.
