Remember what happens in Mission: Impossible 7:

In the previous feature, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) embarks on its most dangerous mission to this day, to track a terrifying new weapon, which threatens all humanity, before it falls in the wrong hands: the entity

Secretly created by Russian military, AI becomes conscious and inhabits hidden servers around the world, being able to manipulate data, images, military systems and even global strategic decisions.

The collapse begins to draw: those who control the entity will have absolute power over all the networks and systems on the planet. Ethan It is called to prevent this power from falling into the wrong hands, but soon realizes that it is not just a mission, but a race desperate for the survival of humanity itself.

Key

The only way to neutralize the entity is with a master key, divided into two halves, which would unlock its source code. These two parts become the object of desire of the main world powers, willing to everything to capture them.

Ethan’s mission and his team, formed by Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg) and Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames), is to find the keys before governments or terrorists do. However, they are not the only ones in hunting.

The search for the key

During the mission, Ethan crosses the path of Grace (Hayley Atwell, Carter Agent), a skilled thief hired to steal one of the halves of the key. It quickly becomes an ambiguous figure: sometimes allied, sometimes adversary, but gradually ends up being absorbed by the dynamics of the IMF.

In parallel, the great human antagonist emerges: Gabriel (ESAI MORALES), a man linked to the past of Ethan, responsible for the death of an important woman in the youth of the spy. Gabriel is now the entity’s emissary in the real world, performing missions and murders on behalf of AI. Beside it is Paris (Pom klementieff), a ruthless murderer who, throughout the plot, shows signs of doubt after Ethan spared his life.

After much suffocation, the group gets one of the parts, and discovers that Alana, the white widow (Vanessa Kirby), has the remaining half. They schedule a negotiation in Venice, but the sale is intercepted by Gabriel.

When the tension reaches the apex, Ilsa (Rebecca Ferguson) is murdered by Gabriel as he tried to protect Grace (Hayley Atwell). The villain manages to escape, but the group discovers that there will be a second attempt to negotiate, this time aboard a moving train. Still shaken by the loss of Ilsa, they draw a plan to infiltrate and recover the key steadily.

During operation, a technical failure forces Grace to act on its own. She disguises her as the white widow, and conducts a false negotiation to escape with the full key. What neither she nor Ethan knew is that the buyer at that time was just Kittridge (Henry Czerny), the director of Force Mission Impossible. And he is not the only ally with hidden intentions: also on board is Denlinger (Cary Elwes), United States Defense Director, who tries to sign an agreement with Gabriel to use the entity as a tool for global domination.

Convinced that he is in control of the situation, Denlinger reveals to Gabriel that the key serves to locate a primary version of the entity, hidden in the Russian Submarine Sevastopol, sunk at the beginning of the plot. Relentless, Gabriel kills Denlinger, cutting his throat, and then even betrays his own ally, Paris (Pom klementieff). Thus, he becomes the only person to know the true purpose of the key – further consolidating his deadly advantage over everyone involved.

Action sequences

As might be expected, and already typical of the franchise, the film is a succession of spectacular set pieces. In Abu Dhabi, a frantic chase occurs at the airport, where Ethan and Grace try to escape while several forces fight for the key, under the direct manipulation of the entity, which sabotes security systems and creates false alerts.

Then, in Rome, Ethan and Grace star in one of the most iconic: handcuffed sequences, they drive a tiny yellow Fiat through the tight streets of the Italian city, while being chased by armed agents and Paris herself.

Tom Cruise’s stunts

The final stretch unfolds in the Alps, aboard a luxurious train that carries the second half of the key. To achieve it, Ethan starred in one of the biggest stunts ever made in the cinema: the Tom Cruise It jumps from a mountain with a motorcycle, falling directly into a cliff to land on the moving wagon.

The sequence turns into an intense confrontation inside the train, where several factions vie for possession of the key while the sabotaged vehicle begins to derail. Ethan and Grace fight for survival in the midst of chaos, being able to escape narrowly. In the fight, Paris is stabbed by Gabriel.

The outcome

In the outcome, Ethan and Grace manage to gather the two halves of the key, but find that their function is still a mystery: it serves to open something hidden in the Russian Submarine Sevastopol, sunk in Arctic since the film’s prologue, when the entity betrayed its creators and caused wreck. The mission, therefore, is far from ending.

Grace, transformed by events, decides to accept Ethan’s invitation and begins his training to officially integrate the IMF. Ethan, in turn, leaves for the next stage of the mission, determined to neutralize the entity once and for all.
