Whether it’s science fiction with Blade Runner, a horror movie screaming, a spy movie Casino Royale or War Film Cross Iron, there is no shortage of cult opening scenes in the world of the cinema and another genre is the rule: Western!
If you have already shared this mythical opening, another Western it deserves to be discovered. Published in 1960, seven hireders offered a perfect introduction to his subject, remember (or discover it):
Dirty weather in Mexico
Eli Walach, very pleasant evil
Mexican villagers work on corn ears. They stop their work when the army of the riders is approaching. They are fifty. Music, previously a peaceful guitar stroll becomes drums and copper sequences. They don’t say good news.
This Surarmée Mexicans’ leader stops the greeting of a certain sotero he will present as his friend. A man makes his weapon, indicating that this friendship is not reciprocal. Mexicans use locals and a loot without shooting. The villagers are trying to resist, but are threatened.
Sotero points out the small beliefs of these bandits, which, according to their leader, want to be pious and regret for the fact that religion is lost. The boss did not allow this point of irony, and the couple’s shots spread what he presented as his friend. He criticizes the village for not having to give his men so much. Frustrated, he’s going to go.
Charismatic evil
The peasant, Raphael, is trying to rebel and attack Serpe by branding: he was shot coldly. Truas leaves, but their boss is already warning: he will return. But who could stop strips from 50 armed bandit teeth? The villagers did not imagine where the people were, as the poor Raphael approved. They are desperate.
The share of the film is brilliantly emerged, and on this scene it describes a threat that weighs the population of this village and their helplessness in the light of this concern, with the efficiency of writing and acting that deserves to be emphasized. The leader of the bad boys, who is explained by Eli Wolachi’s accuracy, and later we learn that he is called Caldera, is one of the worst bandits that the West knows, and some of the lips that recalls Antony Quinn in Vachura (1953).
To see this opening scene, seven mercenaries may be suspicious of the Mexicans to submit to the victims of seven Americans without fear and reprimand, but that will be nothing. The mercenaries all have flaws and finally, it is the villagers themselves who will give their “savior” a lesson in their lives. A very strong sequence that made it its evil icon.
The film will have three suites: seven (1966), seven hiring colts (1969), and seven mercenaries (1972), two seasons with Eric Clous (1998-2000) and 2016, a remake of Chris Pratt and Denzel Washington.
