Is “Lightyear” part of the world of “Toy Story”?

“Lightyear” has already been released in theaters and landed on Disney + this week, but those who have not seen the film may have doubts as to whether or not the film is inserted in the world of “Toy Story“.

The answer is: in a sense, yes, but not as you might imagine.

“Lightyear” is an adventure that follows space ranger Buzz Lightyear on his mission to correct a mistake that ended up leaving him and his crew stranded on a hostile planet 4.2 million light years from Earth called T’Kani. Prime.

Buzz ends up on a grand adventure in space and time and teams up with a group of recruits and their robot cat, SOX, when Zurg, a threat to a robot army, arrives on the planet.

So, Buzz Lightyear, Andy’s toy astronaut we met in “Toy Story” along with cowboy Woody, is a real astronaut in “Lightyear”. But he’s not in space while Andy is on Earth.

In fact, “Lightyear” is the brainchild of director Angus MacLane, who wondered: what movie had Andy asking for a fancy toy with lasers, karate strikes and aerodynamic space wings? Then he explains: “Lightyear is the movie that Andy and his friends and probably the whole world saw at the time,” said the director of the Disney and Pixar film.

In other words, “Lightyear” is a movie in the world of “Toy Story”, with Buzz as the protagonist.

So, although Buzz is present in another form, the toys we know from the “Toy Story” franchise, such as Woody, Rex, Sling, Jesse, Bullet in the Target, Mister Potato Head, among others, are not in “Lightyear”. “. After all, it’s just the movie Andy watched as a kid, while his toys were waiting to play with him in his room.

Other characters like SOX, Alisha Hawthorne, Izzy Hawthorne, Mo Morrison, and Darby Steel are introduced in this cosmic adventure, now available exclusively on Disney +.
