A few days after the start of the club’s world cup, Flamengo, Fluminense and Palmeiras adopted a joint strategy to facilitate trips to the United States. The three clubs hit the card of the same luxury plane, giving priority to the comfort of their delegations on a long journey. The action, in addition to being strategic, has attracted attention to high investments and benarticular logistics among the Brazilian representatives.
The chosen model was a Boeing with 82 exclusive business class seats, all with the possibility of transforming into beds. The aircraft belongs to an US company specialized in Chartered flights. The same plane took Fluminense from Rio de Janeiro in the South Carolina, returned to Brazil to collect Palmeiras and will later transport Flamengo to Atlantic City in New Jersey, on a flight scheduled for Wednesday evening (11), on the eve of the debut of the tournament.
The anticipation of Fluminense’s trip was motivated by the need to divide the aircraft program with the other two clubs. The tricolor card considered that players’ comfort would be more relevant than the additional preparation time in Brazil. In the same way, Palmeiras and Flamengo agree with the plan, giving priority to the minimization of physical wear on arrival in the United States, where the teams have already scheduled a training.
The cost of the operation strengthens the grandeur of the action: only the trip was around $ 600,000 (about $ 3.3 million) for each club. If they choose to return to the same plane, the total amount per team is approaching $ 6 million. Although FIFA offers about $ 2.2 million for clubs to finance the displacement – a value corresponding to 55 executive tickets – the excess amount is full of associations.
In fact, the interest in the plane was not exclusive to the Brazilians. Manchester City came to look for the same company to try to use the plane in the United States. However, since he could not collect other European clubs to share the cost, he saw the preference to be given to the South American trio, which acted quickly and managed to close the agreement.
In the meantime, Botafogo has gone differently. By opting for its logistics, the Rio Club has hired a new company to transport the United States. The decision was made after the problems faced the journey of the 2024 intercontinental cup when it used a Patriots plane from New England. At the time, team players, including defender Alexander Barboza, complained of the structure offered.
This time, the Alvinegra delegation has undertaken an Airbus managed by the National Airlines, with 294 seats, 49 of which in the Economy Premium class. The flight started on Sunday (08) in Los Angeles. From there, the group crossed terrestrial transport for the city of Santa Barbara, California, where it is hosted. The club’s debut at the World Cup is scheduled for Sunday (15), at 23h (Brasilia Time), against Seattle Sounders.
Therefore, even with different trajectories, Brazilian clubs have shown a similar concern in offering the best possible conditions for their cast. While some bet on the union to increase the standard of travel, others preferred autonomous alternatives, but with a similar focus: preserving athletes to the international challenge in approach.
