A plane crashed near Ahmedabad airport in Western India. The aircraft was going to Gatwick airport in London, in the United Kingdom, and had over 200 passengers on board.

According to Reuters, who cites local police sources, 242 passengers were on board.

Compania Air India confirmed in X (the old Twitter) that “Il Volo Ai171, which operates between Ahmedabad-Londuri Gatwick, was involved in an accident today, 12 June 2025”.

“At this moment, we are investigating the details and we will share new updates as soon as possible,” adds the declaration.

The videos shared on social networks show the black smoke that comes out of the plane. The plane apparently fell into a residential area.

Flight Radar, a flight tracking site, reported on X that accompanies “Reports from an AI171 A171 accident”.

“We received the last sign of the aircraft a few seconds after take off,” says the text.

The Aviation Minister of India said that “the rescue teams were mobilized”.
