Universal has announced production of a remake of John Woo’s action classic “The Killer”, which will star French star Omar Sy (“Lupine”) and will be released on the Peacock platform.
The 1989 original film follows a disillusioned killer (played by Chow Yun-fat) who accepts one last job, hoping to use the payment to restore sight to a singer (Sally Yeh) who he had accidentally blinded on a previous “mission”. More than the plot, what marked the production was the direction of Woo, particularly the use of slow motion in the bloody shooting scenes, which transformed the violence into a choreographed ballet of death.
Woo himself will direct the remake, which features an eight-handed script by Matthew Stuecken, Josh Campbell (both of “10 Cloverfield Street”), Eran Creevy (“Blood Enemies”) and Brian Helgeland (“Legends”). “).
