Omar Sy will replace Chow Yun-fat in the lead role in the action film The Assassin, a remake of John Woo’s own film.
After starring in the Lupine series, a reinterpretation of Arsene Lupine’s adventures, Omar Sy is about to change his world completely! American press reveals that the French actor has been cast in John Woo’s The Assassin, a retelling of his own Hong Kong action classic.
The Assassin follows the story of a ruthless and lonely killer. During the mission, he accidentally cuts a singer who loses his sight. The killer, slowly falling in love with the latter, will accept the last contract to get the money needed for the young woman’s surgery. But trapped in his past and surrounded by the police who are relentlessly monitoring him and his boss who takes a dim view of his wishes to retire, will the killer be able to escape his fate?
Co-written by the writers of 10 Cloverfield Lane, this new version of The Killer will be targeted for the Peacock platform (currently not available in France). An appearance by Hong Kong actor Chow Yun-fat, the assassin’s translator in the original film, has not been mentioned at this point.
Joining the cast of Tirailleurs on January 4th (pre-screened at the recent Cannes Film Festival), Omar Sy is also expected to appear in the third installment of Lupin, which is expected exclusively on Netflix before the end of the year!
