Nine days after the start of the Israeli military campaign, Trump announces that the US planes “cancel” three Iranian nuclear structures and threatens Tehran with more attacks if a regime does not accept an imposition of an agreement. The United States entered the conflict between Israel and Iran, marking a new climb in the region nine days after the start of the Israeli military campaign. According to the President of the United States Donald Trump, the US bombings have destroyed Iranian nuclear plants in the last few hours, including the underground complex found, which represented a strategic challenge for the Israelis.
“We have completed our highly successful attack on the three Iranian nuclear structures, including Fordo, Natanz and Esfahan. All planes are now outside Iran Air Space. Bombs full on the main site have been launched. All planes are going home safely. Saturday (21/01/21, in Washington; Dawn on 06/22 in Ira).
In a short statement to the White House, Trump also put pressure on the Iranians to accept a new agreement to limit their nuclear program. “Iran, the tyrant in the Middle East, should look for peace now,” said Trump.
“Otherwise, the future attacks will be much bigger and much easier,” added Trump, who was accompanied by the declaration of the vice -president JD Vance, the defense secretary, Pete Hegseth and the secretary of state Marco Rubio.
This is the first action of the main US military actions against Iran’s objectives in almost four decades. Until the 1970s, the two countries became enemies of 1979, when Iran became an Islamic fundamentalist regime. In the 1980s, the United States even attack Iranian war ships and oil platforms, but had never directly launched a large military action on the ground.
The Israelis, who launched their military campaign against Iran last week, with the justification that the Tehran regime would develop atomic weapons, said they “had” completely coordinated “new attacks on the United States.
The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, who prompted Trump to be directly involved in the conflict, also thanked and congratulated the President of the United States. “His bold decision to attack Iran’s nuclear structures with the impressive and virtuous strength of the United States will change history,” said Netanyahu in a message directed to Trump.
The Iranian Foreign Minister, on the other hand, Abbas Araghchi warned in a place on the X network that the US attacks “will have lasting consequences” and that Tehran “reserves all the options” to retailed.
Hours after the announcement of the attack, the Iranian missiles reached the areas of the North and the center of Israel, leaving at least 16 injured, according to the Israeli press.
During the hours of the attack on Iran, the International Agency of Atomic Energy of the United Nations (AIEA) said in which it did not detect any increase in radiation levels near the main nuclear plants.
“After the attacks on three nuclear plants in Iran (…) AIEA can confirm that so far no increase in the radiation levels outside the site have been reported,” said the nuclear inspection agency on the X network.
What is known about the American attack in Iran
The Iranian state media have confirmed that part of the Ford complex, as well as the nuclear structures of Isfahan and Natanz, have been attacked.
Trump avoided providing details on how attacks were performed. The US press, citing sources of the White House, reports that the operation has used six B-2 bombings and dozens of missiles fired by the submarines.
In the case of the attack on Ford’s nuclear structure, the United States would have used more than a dozen GBU-57a/B pumps, known as “Destroyer bunker, and weighs more than 13 tons each and can only be released by B-2 attacks.
The Ford complex was considered the main challenge of the Israeli campaign launched on 13 June. Built underground in a remote mountain region of Iran, Fordo was considered impenetrable by the Israeli military apparatus and the experts stressed that only the United States had the equipment capable of reaching the installation.
The American voice occurs after Trump sent contradictory signals
The direct intervention of the United States in the conflict occurs after Trump has sent ambivalent signs in the last few days. After the beginning of the Israeli campaign, the members of the United States government said that the operation was unilaterally started by the Israelis without the participation of the United States.
Trump has even issued threats against the Tehran regime, hypothesizing even that the United States could kill the Iranian “supreme leader”, there Khamenei, but also stating that theocracy could obtain a negotiated exit. Thursday, Trump also said that he would make a decision on a possible entry into the United States in “two weeks”, which was seen as a performance and an opening to a diplomatic solution.
A possible intervention was also seen with the opposition between the members of its base: one of the promises of the Republican campaign was not to involve the United States in the wars abroad and to adopt a foreign policy of isolation. In May, Trump also published signs that could have moved away from his close alliance with the Israelis, avoiding visiting the country in a turning point around the Middle East and contradict Netanyahu announcing the end of the sanctions against Syria.
However, this attack on dawn shows that the members of the US government who support an attack on Iran prevailed. This week, Trump even publicly forbidden his national intelligence director, Tulsi Gabbard, a member of the government insulation wing, who had not declared that Iran was developing a nuclear weapon in March.
One warns and part of the democratic opposition in the United States criticizes Trump’s initiative
After the entry of the United States into the conflict, the United Nations Secretary General António Guterres said that the action represents a “dangerous climb in a region that is already at the limit and a direct threat to international peace and security”.
“There is a growing risk that this conflict quickly leave control – with catastrophic consequences for civilians, the region and the world,” said Guterres in a not published declaration.
In the United States, some members of the democratic opposition criticized Trump’s initiative, noting that the attacks were conducted without the consent of the congress.
The representative Alexandria OCasio-Cortez said that Trump’s decision as a “serious violation” of the Constitution and “reason for impeachment”.
“At the impulse, he risks launching a war capable of arresting us for generations,” wrote the deputy to X.
Deputy Jim McGovern, in turn, defined the “crazy” situation. “Trump has just bombed Iran without the approval of the congress, illegally dragging himself into a war in the Middle East. Haven’t we learned our lesson?”
