Xiaomi launches the Yu7 electric car with a price lower than Tesla’s model

The Chinese manufacturer of Electric vehicles and smartphones Xiaomi preceded this Thursday his new Yu7 electric SUV of 253,500 Iuanes ($ 35,364), almost 4% below Tesla’s Y model, intensifying the challenge to the American company in the largest automotive market in the world.

The basic model of Yu7 costs 10,000 yuane less than the initial price of Tesla Model Y in China, with the Yu7 Pro and Yu7 Max Top Range models which cost 279,900 and 329.900 iuanes respectively.

Xiaomi began to receive orders for all three models on Thursday evening, reaching 200,000 orders in 3 minutes after the start of the sale at 10 pm (1400 GMT).

The model Y of Tesla, which was the best SUV of China in May, begins at 263,500 IUane in China.

Xiaomi said he will collaborate with Byd, Gac Toyota and Zhengzhou Nissan to build an ecosystem that connects human, houses and cars.

The executive and founder president of Xiaomi, Law Jun, said that Yu7 wants to comply with model Y and analysts say that it has the potential to be successful.

“Yu7 will serve as an initial test to find out if Xiaomi can expand his appeal beyond the first users and technology enthusiasts to become a serious participant in the mass market segment,” said Rosalie Chen, senior analyst of the third Bridge.

Yu7 has a range of up to 835 kilometers by load compared to autonomy up to 719 kilometers from Model Y, which released the updated version in January.

Yu7 was the second Xiaomi car since the Beijing company entered the automotive sector last year with its SU7 sports sedan, which was inspired by the Porsche style and was evaluated under Tesla’s model 3. From December, SU7 has passed Tesla’s model 3 in China on a monthly base.

In March, Xiaomi increased the target of the delivery of electric vehicles this year to 350,000, compared to the previous goal of 300,000 units.
