Stellantis and AMPLE TEST bacteria exchange for 5 min with the Fiat 500E. Technology can expand the use of electric and reduce dependence on slow charging systems
Stellantis took another step towards large scale electrification by announcing a partnership with large, startup American Specialization in Modular Battery Exchange.
The pilot project is already in operation in Madrid, Spain, with a Fiat 500e fleet adapted to use the new technology, capable of completely replacing the battery in less than 5 minutes.
The proposal eliminates the need for conventional recharge and aims just one of the greatest obstacles to the adoption of electric vehicles: the anxiety of autonomy.
According to companies, the exchange works automatically and without the driver having to leave the car, just stop the vehicle inside the station. In a few minutes, it comes out with a completely charged battery.
In addition to Fiat, other models of the Stellantide group – including brands such as Citroën – can also receive technology in the future. The large platform is compatible with different types of vehicles as long as they have adapted architecture.
There is still no expansion forecast for other markets outside Europe, but the company says that it is ready to resize the solution globally, including corporate fleets.
The battery exchange model is already common in countries like China, where Nio is one of the leaders of the segment. Now, with the weight of a giant like Stellantide, the concept gains breath in the West. The idea can help overturn logistical barriers and accelerate the growth of electric mobility.
