In February 2019, TMZ reported that McClurg’s family had applied for guardianship because of his dementia problems and that he was living with “a verbally abusive partner” who was trying to influence the management of his property by getting him to sign bonds. This “male companion” is identified as Michael Ramos, to whom the judge in the guardianship case was allowed to stay at his home for “company”. However, things have taken a dark turn more recently, with TMZ now she reports that the unemployed Ramos tried to get McClurg out of California to marry her, knowing she lacked mental capacity.
New medical documents say the 77-year-old was granted protection by a judge who ordered Ramos to withdraw his alleged marriage plan. Documents also claim Ramos allegedly also sexually assaulted Edie McClurg’s caretaker, and this has since been covered in a police report previously filed with the Los Angeles Police Department. Although the comedian and Ramos have never been in a romantic relationship, her caregiver fears that Ramos sexually assaulted McClurg, but that her condition made it impossible for her to understand what was going on.
After a guardianship attorney asked the courts to remove Ramos from the McClurg home, the judge was able to grant a temporary restraining order. Ramos cannot contact the American actress and must be at least 100 meters away from her and her house. Ramos was also told to leave and not to return. There will be a hearing for further developments next month.
Edie McClurg wasn’t the only celebrity to deal with elder abuse. comic writer Keya Morgan, Stan Lee’s business partner, was charged with elder abuse for false imprisonment, fraud and forgery in May 2019. While Lee, who died in November 2018, initially denied allegations that Morgan took advantage of him, a a restraining order was eventually filed against Morgan in August 2018 for mishandling more than $ 5 million of his money. She even moved Lee to an unfamiliar place to keep him away from friends and family and also hijacked his artwork of him. It is very tragic when older celebrities have to face the cruelty of others trying to exploit their fortunes or profit from a disease they suffer from.
